eBay UK listings

Post06 Apr 2007, 15:14

Do other forum members know that ebay.uk auction listings no longer automatically appear on eBay.com? (I am located in the US).

What led me to do some research was that "something" did not feel right in a number of categories that I normally browse. The # of listings "did not feel right" but I couldn't put my finger on what was bothering me.

What I found was the following EBAY discussion board link:

http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa? ... 5860310801

It describes what I am referring too. In the past, I HAVE BOUGHT a number of very nice items from UK sellers (including watches). I found these items by just browsing eBay.com. NOW, UNLESS I click the "worldwide" tab or specifically go to ebay.UK I WILL NOT see them.

I am glad I figured this out as a very nice item I am interested in ends on Sunday!!!

Was I alone in my ignorance about the change eBay made? Or did others know about it??

Even if you click the worldwide settings, you still won't get listing from people who don't want theirs to show up in other countries. I've bought a few nice pieces off ebay Italy and Gerrmany(I actually had my mother who speaks Deutch look at listings with me), by just understanding enough to tell the seller I an an American and I would like to bid on their item. Clicking "worldwide"is just the tip of the iceberg...there are oddles of people who are listing things in their native language, not in English

Think readers of my first post in this thread possibly misunderstood the point of my first post in this thread.

My point, eBay.com saw fit to AUTOMATICALLY remove eBay.uk from their eBay.com search criteria. Unless one specifically goes to eBay.uk or clicks the worldwide tab one will NO LONGER see UK seller's on eBay.com. Obviously this is negatively affecting UK sellers. For example this quote from the UK seller who began the thread I referenced in my previous post.

you may have difficulty finding all us uk sellers as we have bben removed in most cases from ebay.com main page searches.
try logging in to ebay uk to view us all as we are all missing you across the pond.

eBay DID NOT MAKE this change widely known here in the states. If you read the other posts from UK sellers there business's are rapidly nosediving!!

One solution to UK sellers would be to sell through Ebay.com and sell to worldwide. I don't think there's anything to stop you doing this as far as I can tell.

Exactly! there is nothing stopping a UK seller from listing on the original site to reach Worldwide markets. From what I read of that ebay thread link, all I hear from UK sellers upset about changes is that they don.t like to sell on ebay.com.Perhaps there is some underlying financial benefit that would no longer apply, like exchange rates and certain ebay fee,s that they grew acustomed to.On the bright side no changes in Language would be neccessary.

This whole thing makes me wonder just how many Synchronar auctions I never seen, simply because at the time my search setting may not have been for World Wide and like ED points out the seller can set his auction not to be seen by a worldwide ebay, com search.Did I read that right?

Howard, you read that right. People can block you from being seen, and english speaking people have their search parameters set so they only see english auctions. Nothing like trying to limp your way thru auctions in other languages...sometimes the sellers have sprinkled in a little english for the english speaking buyer.

Searching "worldwide" does not get you worldwide - it get you a "Cliffs Notes"(reduced) version of the world. :x
