SINCLAIR WATCH - GAY ICON?

Post07 Dec 2008, 18:16

According to the description the seller (Steve) brought the watch when he first 'came out.' M:)W:)M

Interesting sales pitch but I don't think it would look as nice with a pink strap M:)W:)M

The strap DOES look a little suspicious - as if someone had tried to remove pink paint with dissolver. ;-)

But what can you expect from a guy who has to type on a keyboard with CAP LOCK stuck and neither period nor comma nor return key :-|

"Steve" also claims "BOTTOM VALUE IS £150".....so he apparently thinks his anus is one hot little item too. But hey, maybe it's unused like the watch.

Actually, up until WWI, wearing a wristwatch was suspect for any man....last month's NAWCC magazine had a short article telling about that, and how some early wristwatches were sold with advertising that specifically directed them to the gay crowd. It is presumed that they were used as a way for gay men to [potentially]identify one another. The war made the wristwatch a necessity for everyone from the guy in the trenchs to the commanders back at base,"We will attack at 06:00 hours exactly. Gentlemen, synchronize your watches." 8-)

With the advent of the disposable watch the status of watch collectors has not improved much - most people assume watch collectors are crazy. M:)W:)M

Interesting news about the wristwach and WWI> If I was born pre-WWI I guess I would have been a pocket-watch collector... :?:

I wonder if they where they called 'Limp' wristwatches before 1914?

I'm not going to belabor it, but realistically, our gay, watch collecting breathren probably make up 1/3 of the collectors, despite gay-folk only making up about 1/6 of the general population. I'm basing this theory on my personal observations and conversations with various collectors and some of the gay folks I know. From a practical standpoint, they have more discretionary income, as they haven't had children(in most cases). The collecting market and places like these forums would not be the same without them. Many famous designers and artists are/were gay, so we are apparently appreciative of their handiwork.

Personally, I'm thinking I'd rather discuss watches with a guy(s) who likes guys, than a guy who sells me fake Pulsar glass or wants to rip me off in some other fashion and have a good laugh over it.. The former might be thinking about putting it up my bung  , but the latter IS going to do it, against your will - and no lube. :x

A world-wide collecting community based on honesty and helpfullness.

The joke was regarding a 'typo', the subject matter was governed by the nature of the typo error made, it was never intended to be conceived as anything else.

It good to have such a diverse spread of people, the world would be a very boring place if we where all the same.
