Is this expensive for a broken Hamilton.. ?

Post10 May 2010, 13:04

Hi All

I was watching this item..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180500984684&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

with a view to marrying the case etc to a working Frontier module I had, but the price went ballistic (for a broken one). I was prepared to bid about 40-50 USD but 99

Am I being unrealistic ?

Cheers

James

I don't think it's that dear. The glass looks very good, and the rest of the watch seems in quite good nick. It'a a bit speculative, but the module may also work.......sometimes it's a very simple fix.
He'd have probably got more if he'd have listed it Worldwide. Since he listed it as US only, it doesn't show up on anything other than US Ebay.

Rgds,
Andrew.

That is a fairly uncommon model - has a wider than normal clasp that I can't recall seeing on any other Hamilton model. Working it might fetch $400 plus. Fully boxed in premium NOS condition, this only lasted a few weeks on my site at $700 http://www.retroleds.com/Items/WA431.htm

I'm thinking$150 for that sale if the glass is still nice.

I bought one a few months back from the guy selling off Pulsar Toms stuff(rip). Think I paid abvout $80 for the very nice, empty case, which was missing the back and the very elusive clasp(which I knew I had). :-)

Remember your Frontier module won't work on just dropping into a Hamilton case. 1::the contacts are inset deeper on the Frontier module, so you will need to swap the board onto a Hamilton chassis. 2: Frontier module is usually deeper from front to back, again making the swap job necessary. 3:Depending on the particular Frontier module you have and Hamilton chassis you are trying to mate it too, you may have trouble...particularly on Frontier modules that have the small spring coming out the back which must contact the battery clip to keep time.

Ah I see I'm still learning ..

I was prepared to swap the circuit board (in fact the battery holder
bit on my frontier is a bit trashed anyhow). Mind you i had no idea that this model was so sought after - typical

Cheers all for replies.

Not that it is so sought after, but if you are trying to have THE Hamilton collection, then, yes, you need one. And you buy the best you can get your hands on, if that fits your financial realities. I have the topwatch version of that same watch....I suppose I should offer it to the chap, being a very good customer and all.
