Jagmad:
I know it seems funny but Bulova made a number of winding and automatic movement "Accutrons" - "Accutron" is just a model line name. Some consumers liked the styling of particular models, but didn't like/trust the early tuning fork movements, so some were made available as mechanicals. The ad is possibly quite correct. The stem at 5 o'clock position is what they should have mentioned.

Reminds me of the re-released Hamilton Ventura...almost everyone went for the quartz movements. Few seem to even realize they were made in a self-winder too. That's the one I got.

I can't help you on the "knowing what movement is inside" issue. Hey, I'm not saying the guy may not be wrong, that what they think is winding isn't just some stiff mechanical movement. Probably best not to buy a watch they say can't be opened - a case that is badly cross-threaded or even worse, glued shut(I've seen it!), is not a good way to start.

I would have gone for the quartz one too as that is the only one electric like the original.
I néarly bought one in gold plate with a gold-black bi-colour strap.
I like that styling so, só much.
It also is so, so, só nót me which is why I did not. (The MiB-II suits me quite well.)

Anyway, your point is valid. Watch makers are after all in the business of sélling watches.
The seventies jump hour watches are thé proof of that: mechanical manufacturers trying to meet the crave for digital.
It gave us the wonderfully weird Jazz Swissonic and the stunningly creative Amida Digitren.

It was before you arrived here...look what I did to this man's poor Jaz Derby electro-mechanical. Very similar to the Jaz Swissonic.
