SEIKO 0624-5009 - Gold Tone

Post21 Mar 2012, 16:31

Hello,

I was wondering if any of you Seiko experts believe this 0624-5009 is worth paying the listed price.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... 23#vi-desc

The gold-tone for this watch is somewhat rare, and this one looks to be in descent condition, but who knows what the consensus says. I certainly don't have the money to grab it, but was wondering if anyone here is. ;-)

Nice watch ,but the gold finish on all seikos is pretty crap. The steel version is much nicer.Possibly THE nicest seiko digital watch of them all. 8-)

nope..not worth it...the goldtone is allmost gone.

if i need one like this my price would be around 80-100 dollar max. Need a total makeover..case, goldplating, and new glass.

Agree with all of this.

The SS version is much nicer (I don't 'do' gold watches anyway but that is beside the point....) This gold one is good for a working module and perhaps other parts. But if you're going to spend this kind of money you want a watch that works AND looks nice, right?

Like Patrick I'm a new collector who doesn't allocate big bucks to digital watches (OK, it is a slippery slope and I have started spending money on the occasional one .... ) I did like the look and heritage of the 0624 but really didn't have a good handle on value / condition / parts. So I spent some months watching all of the 0624s I could find to see what they were selling for. A lot of them seem to get BINed in the shadows !@@!

But the current price on a Stainless Steel 0624 seems to be in the $150 to $250 band. This gets you a used (not beaten-up) watch, declared as and shown working. Obviously physical condition, quality of the listing photos, apparent credibility of the 'declared as working' statement will place it at the upper or lower ends. A Mint one shown not-working went for similar money - but then you need to price in the risk that the module might have had issues if a battery had been left in (or if it had not been sold back in the day for a reason). Boxes, bits of paper and stuff? - dunno, I only collect watches ;-)

After all this DD, I did spot one, just listed, needing a bit of work but at a decent price. I thought about it for an hour and then pulled the trigger. So now I've got me an 0624. I'll post some pictures of the clean-up when I get round to it. Which makes five finished 1970s Seikos for me now. Plus three work in progress and two awaiting disposal.

Very slippery slope.

Slippery when Shiny or retro!

1ST:
I would love to find a semi mint SS SEIKO 0624-5009 on eBay, but from what I have experienced, it is not going to happen. Once I saw an auction from .99 that quickly worked it's way from 20.00 to 120.00 from a bidder that was very determined. I wanted to outbid this bidder, but I knew that it would have gone to 200.00, and I do not have that kind of money at all.

2ND:
Holly gave me an offer for a practically new SS 0624-5009, and was asking a fair price I suppose for it, but again, I do not have the extra cash to blow. If I do get a big chunk of change someday, than I will ask Holly for the watch at his price, because I would feel a comfort level doing business with him instead of a guy who sells: kitchen sinks, rugs, an old faded rubber ducky and a antique table or anything else he comes across, and then decides he can sell a Seiko watch with an accurate description. This is where I have miserably FAILED! This is because many times the watch is not fully working, but is described as "working."

Anyway,

I have a real interest in the design on the circuit boards that were used and constructed with LCD's from the 1970's. The technology was sort of new in using a LCD for a wrist watch. And the SEIKO 0624-5009 is a history piece cut right from the MID 70's, and I love it!

Slippery slope when it's a "SEIKO 0624-5009" and "SS!"

Holly,

Too bad, but I had my chance on that SS 0624 you had for sale. It was beautiful. I am not sure where I can get a deal on one, but I will keep trying.
