I Wished I'd Of Bid More!

Post17 Nov 2012, 12:56

I had one of those 'I wished I'd of bid more' moments when I missed out on this Longines LED - item number 251180415199, I expected it to fetch a much higher price, more than my budget would allow, so I held back, damn  I am kicking myself now, it's a really good looking watch, one that I have been wanting for ages and they don't come up very often.

Sorry Mick - It was me!!!! I must admit I was expecting it to go much higher but I only just got it. Found out from the seller that his reserve was £150 which I thought was a bit low. I put a snipe on for £208 and got it for £207.08

From the photos it appears to be in a good condition but we will see. Should get it on Tuesday but for now here is one of the EBay photos

You never know I might not like it and we could do a swap. You must be bored of your GPs by now

Somehow though I think that may be unlikely :-D

Philosophy on bidding

Post18 Nov 2012, 19:27

I have posted a couple of threads on the philosophies of eBay bidding to conclude that most auctions I bid on with eight or more bidders...I over pay for. I am putting together a watch that I bought over two years ago for $140.00 USD, and with all the parts and time I had to invest in getting the watch put together, has cost me well over what it is worth, but if you can afford it, then is is perfectly alright. For me, I like buying absolute beaters, and then taking care in restoring the crystal, case, and if needed, the circuit board, it is is NOT too complicated.

Well the Longines has arrived - anyone know its correct name - is it Pentagon or Spaceman or something else ?

It is in a good condition, just fine scratches that can be easily buffed out. The module has worked perfectly so far and is very bright and uniform.

It's not as chunky as I imagined - in fact it's fairly lightweight. Good quality but not exceptional but a worthy addition to any collection.

On the same day I also received a Wittnauer Polara G100 in goldtone. The quality of these are excellent and not seen too often in goldstone with logo intact as seen in the photo below on the far right

I'll post actual pictures soon.

I think the correct name is the Longines 'Sell It To Mick' ;-)

I have always heard it referred to as the 'Pentagon'.

I like the angle sided dual display Wittnauer, although I am not sure if it was ever produced as I have never seen one before.

The G100 is often referred to as the Wittnauer Doctors - I don't know why?

Well the Polara has arrived for which a picture from EBay is below. Strange EBay sale though. An identical watch to the one I bought started on EBay with a buy it now price of over £400 a couple of weeks ago and started dropping in price and finally ended at £255 won by a bidder with a 431 feedback rating. A week later an identical watch goes for sale from a seller with a 431 feedback score. It has to be the same watch. Why would someone buy it one day for £255 and then within days sell it for a £35 loss. Watch is in a near perfect condition with tag, inner and outer box. Doesn't make sense to me but my it's my gain and I love it. Not many of these seem to be around but Peter at Magical Digitals has one in stock, but not on his site, for 480 Euros without boxes I believe.

I don't know but it sounds fishy to me!

Thanks Pete - you may be right. It was two different sellers and the pictures from both sales were taken at different angles and lighting however the u in the Wittnauer logo in both versions has a tiny bit missing and the boxes have the exact same marks in the same place in both sales so I'm convinced they are one and the same.

I suppose at the end of the day I did get what I have been looking for (the SS versions appear now and again but not the goldtone) at a price i was willing to pay. The contact and service was excellent and the watch matches the discription so I'm happy.

No probs I have bought from that avenue before I was a member here, with the same feelings and result,
so don't let it change how you feel. After all that's why we have this bug.And when it bites it's normally deep. ;-)
Actually come to think of it, it was my first ever one(the bulova in my profile pic) :-D
All the best PETE
Ps. I play poker at DTD most weekends if you wanna meet up sometime??
