I'm maybe missing something here, it's a nice watch but is it worth that much?

No, it's the two high bidders who are missing something...a sense of reality. True, this is a nice Hamilton, one of the best I've seen on eBay, but, even allowing for the condition, and the box, at $1,148, this was NO bargain. Somebody paid about $500 more than this package was worth [maybe they both had private buyers lined up who were heir to coffee fortunes or something]. This auction goes next to the boxed stainless P3 that went for $1300 a few years ago [in the Departure-From-Reality category].

i was watching that one as well. i couldn't believe my eyes as it went up. on another note, i recently attended a nawcc show and picked up a s/s date command and a near mint s/s pulsar calculator for cheap. the date command is in fair to good cond and everything works well. the calc as i said is near mint with the pen/stylus as well as the box. missing is the wallet card and original booklet altho' i got a copy of it. clean inside, works well, but the flick wrist feature is pretty much missing. works occasionally but mostly not. given the rest of the cond of it i am happy. :-D . windup watch people do not have much use for the electronic stuff and i was surprised to find either there. peter

The NAWCC shows can produce some unexpected treasures. Best thing I ever found was an 18K Calculator, working 901 module, fair cosmetic condition...$3400. That's about 10% above the "melt" value of the watch, even if you don't include the value of the module [$300-400]. Total stranger walks up to my table, asks me if I'm "the LED guy", and pulls this chunk of gold out of his pocket. I spent the entire night disassembling and re-finishing it. The next day, when I showed it to the seller, he didn't believe it was the same watch...until he looked at the serial number. And a side note...if he hadn't found a buyer at the show, he had decided to let it go for scrap to a local refiner ["Too much money to tie up in something nobody wants", he told me]; so much for the idea that no one would melt a Pulsar to "recycle" the gold. Then there was the solid 14K Executive for melt value [$1250 at the time]; same scenario ["you actually buy these?"]...that gem came wrapped in a plastic sandwich bag. Oh, and a P3L that I bought by accident for the working module without recognizing the special combination of case and bracelet; hundred bucks. I figure the plus side on the calculator alone has paid my dues for the next 25 years... ;-) But, back to the Hamilton; I'd love to know the full story here...at least, somebody seems to be doing well in this economy...let's see if the buyer actually follows through.

You're making me green with envy clockace!

About the 'flick of the wrist' feature, my avatar has that feature and when I first bought it a few years back it only worked ocassionally.
But after wearing it and 'flicking it' on a regular basis it seemed to loosen up the mercury switch and it works great now. You may want to pry your synchronar off your wrist and wear that Pulsar for a few weeks straight and see what happens.
