Hamilton LED listed as an Alarm model?

Post01 Apr 2010, 04:10

The seller states this Hamilton LED watch has a alarm feature, is that correct. I looks like a stopwatch model to me, I never heard of an alarm feature on those models.

Hamilton did make both alarm and stopwatch versions of this watch. From the front, they both appear identical, so, without a pic of the caseback [which, in the alarm version, has six small slots milled radially around the outer edge, so as not to muffle the sound], it is impossible to tell for certain what we have here. Request a [clear!] pic of the back, and look for the openings. Not quite sure which version is rarer, but if it's not working right, that doesn't make much difference to the value.

From the display it appears to be an alarm model that hasn't been set, since the 1 oclock position is not working. I'm under the impression that the alarms are more common, but that could just be a factor of people who have a stopwatch model don't part with them as often. The alarm is easy to use and set once you understand it, but it is not completely intuitive, so again, that could skew any market perception. The cases are not interchagable, as the alarm back is held in by a ring, while the stopwatch has a one piece screw back. Different diameter threads :x

The seller got back to me and it is an alarm model as it does have the alarm caseback with the slots in it.

Do you think it may just be a reed switch for that button?

Hey, there you go...the caseback tells the story. BUT, this watch does not use magnetic switches; it relies on purely mechanical contacts to activate functions, like the vast majority of LED watches.
