Wells With Added Pulsar Label?

Post29 Jul 2011, 09:50

Nice watch although I'm not sure why anyone would consider the additional Pulsar label necessary.

I'd suggest anyone looking at that ask for a clear picture of the area below the command button - I have uploaded their pictures and tried to brighten that area...it seems there is an artifact. My concern: that is not an Wells case, but a slightly later Benrus case(Wells was a Benrus line), and the case has a non-functional recessed setting button in that dark area(curved area the runs into lugs. Meaning you'd be stuck with: the wrong module, in the wrong case, with the wrong back, with a bogus sticker on the front. Maybe worth $150 for someone who has one that is in parts but otherwise.

Well, I'm not certain what this is (and don't particularly care), but one thing's for sure...this ain't a Pulsar, and never saw the inside of the Lancaster factory! Lettering looks to be about the same as on the Sport or P1 magnet (but a bit smaller). A few minutes with a good engraving pantograph, a bit of black paint, and here you are. Has it finally happened; are we seeing our first "counterfeit" Pulsar?

Sold for £410

The Pulsar stamps looks like it has been applied using rub on letter transfers.

It is a bit hard to understand or watch(like a bad episode of I Love Lucy). $200-250 would have been more reasonable. Those actually have a very nice display, giving the Pulsar a run for the money. But what a made up little fake/wanna-be. And unfortunately the seller will now be encouraged to repeat the trick. The factory Wells faceplate is just stuck-on plastic, so the letters weren't so bad, but why not just print Wells? Oh well, a fool and his money are soon to be parted. (Unintended social commentary on why capitalism seems to keep on working)

This is pretty low, even by eBay standards.

I know it's buyer beware and all that but this is blatant, outright fraud. Does anyone know if reporting a fraud like this has any effect? Will they even register a fraud report from someone other than the buyer? You would expect that at the very least, the seller's account should be terminated. I think Bruce reported a fraud case a while back after giving the seller a warning... do you know if it had any effect?

Sadly, it's been my experience that eBay gives a rat's you-know-what about the welfare of buyers and sellers as long as they get their cut.

What's next - fake P1's with labels stuck on using scotch tape?

-abe.

For sale: super rare 36KT Pulsar P1 with diamond display (why settle for 18KT and ruby): $25,000 OBO

You must be remembering the character who was trying to sell a 14KGF P3 as a documented(!) "James Bond" watch. I was the first, but not the only, person to report it to eBay. My entire correspondance with the seller is recounted on another thread. As long as the frauds are this blatant and transparent, I doubt any collector will be victimized, but unfortunately, the general public is not so knowledgeable. It appears we have entered another new era, and are none the better for it. I guess the best we can do is flag these jokers as they appear (pity is isn't possible to directly contact the buyer, and keep him from paying for this in the first place...another one of eBay's "security measures" facilitating the very thing it's intended to prevent).
