WTB-Seiko Solar LCD A557-5060 SQ S/S Watch Band With Black H

Post12 Apr 2011, 12:47

Hi. I have a Seiko Sports 100 Solar battery LCD A557-5060 SQ watch. I brought it new in early-mid 1980s. I have not been able to find an image of this watch - even on here and have never seen one on eBay either !

This watch has great sentimental value but the original band is broken and can not be repaired - so it can not be worn. New bands are no longer available from Seiko for this model.

Here is a link (which i hope, works !) to a similar request - with pic of my watch and broken bracelet, on DigitalWatchLibrary :

http://www.digitalwatchlibrary.com/foru ... thread/81/

I have literally been searching for a replacement watch band for years - without luck. I suspect that the A557-5060 is a pretty rare Seiko watch ????

So, if anyone knows where I can get a genuine Seiko SQ band for an A557-5060 (or can tell me what the Seiko part number is), can you please let me know. Happy to buy the watch too if there is one attached to the band !

I’m in Australia.

Thanks in anticipation.

The Seiko reference number on my one's bracelet is C285, BUT that might just be the end piece reference (I don't have a copy of the big Seiko casing guide for the relevant year- ask on a dedicated Seiko forum, someone almost certainly has the book of words).

Welcome RommeI56,
nice watch. I have a similar model, the non-Sports 100/ non-solar version. That band was used on several differnent Seiko models in the late 70's and early 80's. As for finding a replacement:
I would suggest that you measure the end piece
(I didn't see those in the picture) to see how many millimeters it is across and then search for vintage Seiko LCD watches on ebay or other sites. When you see a Seiko with this band ask the seller to measure the band where it meets the case to determine if it is the same size. Take note of this part of the band, some end pieces have a differnet shape even though the band links appear the same.

BTW - the clasp on your band does not look original. Normally it is a non-locking clasp and it's a 'signature band' - meaning it says "Seiko" or "Seiko SQ".

That band also appears on some of the the Pulsars(e.g V771-4009) LCD Chronographer 'running man'. Adam/DWL has a nice picture over on his site.) Also seems to pop up a lot on Seiko H357 - X series.

I'd concur - wrong clasp, never would have been factory.

Thanks for the helpful comments - I'll widen my search to other Seiko models and brands then. My band doesn't have a model no. stamped on it anywhere - and yes, the clasp (which was the original SQ) broke and the watchmaker just fitted an aftermarket generic one. A month later the whole band broke........

Thanks again.

Except the Seiko A557-5060 is 20mm not 18mm across the pins and uses formed separate end pieces to match the watch contours.

I have this exact watch. I got it for my high school graduation gift back in 1984. It cost $109.90 USD before taxes. I still have the original plastic felt lined box and instructions. The rechargeable battery (I think it was a rechargeable) had wore out long ago. I've been using a silver oxide battery number 395 ever since. A jeweler told me not to swim with it because the rubber seals had long worn out.
It has a scratch on the crystal, the LCD has discolored from age, and the buttons are gummy. I love this watch and it has been my most favorite. I wear it about one day a week now because I want to preserve it. I fell in love with the watch because it was so unique with the six silver colored solar panels.
I've got a new Casio batteryless solar watch with a capacitor that I wear more often now but it isn't as asthetically pleasing as the Seiko.
