A BIG THANKS to TOR...the times they are a changing.

Post27 Jan 2007, 03:49

Forum members and visitors:
Tor Kinlok, the developer of this site, has turned over ownership of DWF.NU as of today, January 26th,2007. We appreciate this great thing he started - now it is time for someone else to pick up the task. Much like Tor, who started this site because he was looking for answers he wasn't finding out on the Web or anywhere else, I have a desire for something I'm not finding out "there". My plan/hope/dream is to develope an online magazine, "devoted to the digital edge of horology" that will help elevate interest in digital watches to an equal status with mechanical timepieces. To that end I have started a new site, www.thedigitalwatch.com, which will incorporate this forum, all of it's users, and all of the funny, sad, informative and argumentive posts and replies into it. My hope is to have informative articles, tips, a Vintage and a Modern "Watch of the Month"..you get the idea. And some of you certainly would have great ideas and input for this venture.

www.thedigitalwatch will not be MY site, nor will this one; although, someone has to be "in charge".

Finally, I would like to invite back the any banned, former members who have been lurking or just plain staying away...you should at least have a shot at exasperating the new site adminstrator.

Both sites are going to allow advertisers, but in their own area - only.

Thanking you all in advance for your thoughts, suggestions and encouragement.

Ed Cantarella,
Editor - www.TheDigitalWatch.com & www.DWF.NU

Tor comes thru - again!

Post29 Jan 2007, 22:11

Guys:

As you know, the site's been down since last Friday, for all practical purposes. It's a combination of things, especially the fact that I am not a database maven. Tor was good enough to spend some time on this and get the new implementation up and running. I will try not to screw it up :x

Thank you all for your patience. And especially, thank you Tor.

Ed

Sounds like some good things are gonna happen. I love the idea of raising the profile of LED's. I collect digitals and analogues, and all too often I read analogue snobs claiming there's no value in digitals, because they are never more than a collection of cheap electronic components, or something similar. Man, some folks have never heard of the expression - the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts!! Im looking forward to the future. Good luck Ed :)
The other day, my computer beat me at chess. It was rubbish at kick boxing though.

A call for humor?

Post30 Jan 2007, 02:33

We'll try a humor section again at some point...but no uploadable images. Guys, I don't want to get arrested when I go on a vacation to another country where I have ended up on a pornographers list. There are plenty of sites for appreciation of the human form. :P

Some of you may have notice the postings of Tentedjo are all gone? Anyone notice postings with links to porn, cell phone sellers, stupid stuff like that, please write a.s.a.p. In money and time spent, this has been an expensive adventure....would like to keep up the quality of the site. 8)

I'm still having nightmares over that old gal with the goat jugs Richard :x

January 31,2007 - Glad to see all the activity on the site!!

Hoping to make a major push on February 1st. IT won't be a full edition, but it will be a good start I hope. Something to get you guys thinking about WHAT you would like in a digital watch site, what would make you feel proud, included, excited and not just fringe element in the world of horology. I had this though while writing to someone today:

....the digitals, especially the early ones, had more man hours of research and development put into them, in a short period of time, than ANY mechanical watch ever produced. Mechanical timepieces were produced in relatively incremental steps, constant refinements to the past work which was spread over about 200 years and tens of millions of watches and clocks produced and sold!! I'm of the opinion that about the only thing electric digitals and mechanical timepieces have in common is they both generally hang on your wrist and tell you the time!!

Fired UP!!
