Question about a Seiko 0439-4009

Post11 Jan 2006, 19:51

Hi guys, long time lurker here, Ive a chance to buy a Seiko 0439 4009 at what I think is a good price (?30), Ive noticed these early LCDs are starting to fetch decent money these days, dont get me wrong, Im not just motivated by its 'worth' ( how many new posters come to the boards just asking 'whats it worth?' ) I just diddnt know it this was a common/not so common one :?: Im a collector but mostly mechs ( I do have a nice working 1970s Trafalgar LED if it gets me any cred on here
Anyway its one of these:

The unhelpfull answer would be it's worth as much as someone is prepared to pay. However i'd say (unless it's a rare one, and I don't know much about how rare models are) ?30 is about the most you should pay. If the watch was in mint condition, i.e. no scratches, scuffs, wear of any kind, and working perfectly, it could fetch a little more. Perhaps.

Although you say value is a side issue, I would personally say the most valuble, and distnctive seiko's are the models that have the buttons mounted on the watch face, not the case sides, as is normal these days.

Jason

They're not my fave Seiko, or the most desired, but if 'NOS' it's worth double and more than what you paid for it. With box and papers I reckon it could fetch ?100.

Knackered or scuffed and used, ?30 is a fair price, assuming it has the original strap. I steer well clear of Seikos without original straps (ie the correct strap for the case) as it's a ball ache to find the right one.

Hope that helps.
