Bulova Computron

Post07 Jan 2007, 20:05

Hi,

I have three Bulova's, but the third one seems strange to me. It has a lot of differences compared to the other two (who are definitely original watches).

Is there anybody here with a good knowledge of vintage Bulova Computron watches?

Let me know, I have very, very clear close-ups of the inner works and the watches themselves (photographed through a magnifyer).

Thx in advance!

Are two day-date(numeric), and the third day-date(alpha)? The 2 leftmost LEDs would be laid out slightly different on a two-button that reads date in alpha - the circuit layout is slightly different.

Aren't the circuits produced all the same?

No. Obviously with an alpha date readout, the setting procedure includes a step for choosing the day of the week, and the two left LEDs and circuit have to accomodate segments set up for ...."T, M,W & R" - in english readout modules. In Spanish setup modules, only "M and R"(I may be wrong, not going to go dig one of my few spanish modules out) would need to be accomodated for...all the other letters can use the segments as laid out for numbers. E.g. a "S" and a "5" use the same segments.

And all of this takes significantly different circuits internally.

I wonder if this is a case of Bulova buying in display boards from two different manufacturers- for example the centre board looks typical of something that Monsanto would have produced with those geometrically neat segment PCB tracks whereas the other two are "quick & easy" PCB layouts (no name, no pack drill!).

VintageLover(this is esteben, right?): Do these modules work, how does their function compare...is there a reason the difference needs to be understood(other than different suppliers or productions lines)?

They all work the same (one push for hour, two x push for date...).

The innerwork in the middle doesn't work though.
