Talking Seiko

Post30 Jan 2007, 22:35

I recently bought a talking Seiko from- i think- the eighties, it has a tiny lcd readout on the bottom left hand side. I have been keeping a lookout for one for a while so was particularly pleased to have obtained this minter. I would be grateful if anybody out there has any information (i dont even know the model name !!)-thanks

Hi, I have mine on today!

A965-4000 is the model number, at least for the stainless steel ones.

These speak English and German, black ones speak English and Spanish. Not sure which speak Japanese, some of them must!

Well done on the purchase, it's such a nice watch and get's the most attention out of all my LCDs.

I thought the number A965-4000 was just a serial number, i didnt realise thats the model. I've never seen a black one. I cant find any information at all about these watches on the web. It would be nice to see what box they came in, how many were produced, over what period etc

If I'm correct they're from around 1986 I think. I have an instruction booklet and box, will dig them out at some point and let you know.

The A965 is the case/calibre, the 4000 is the strap.

Beyond that I don't know too much more on them. I love the 'Star Trek' look of them, and as I mentioned, it gets the most comments and looks when out and about...

Enjoy it, will you be wearing it or is too NOS/mint for that?

The serial number will tell you when it was made, I think it's 1st digit for the year and 2nd digit for the month, or maybe other way around? this is providing you know what decade it came from of course.

Any luck from Seiko?

The Japanese guy who runs http://www.kkhservices.co.uk/ is pretty helpful and knowledgable, he might have something on them.
