Hamilton Quartz

Post14 Mar 2007, 23:35

Hi got this in a job lot a while back,

Image

Image

i always thought the reason the LCD was black was because it had severley blead but i looking at this site recently i have found there were earlier LCD's with what looked like negative displays

The module says SUNCRUX on it, googling found me this -

QUELQUES DATES

Whuich roughly translates to -

SOME DATES
1967 1st wrist watch with quartz of the world, Beta 21 (clock making electronic Center of Neuchâtel). Not sold
1969 1st watch with quartz marketed (Seiko 35SQ)
1975 1st wrist watch with quartz with analogic display by liquid crystals (Suncrux).

Anyway it doesnt seem to work with a battery, yet i dont seem to have the exact right size for it

Any more info, such as it aint worth a thing would be much appreciated :),

Cheers!

Hi. I bought a similar Hamilton LCD a couple of years ago, and thought I got a great deal, when I only paid a few bucks. However, in my case, I have to say the watch was a pretty poor example of a digital watch, compared to their earlier LED's, and the display was a pretty simple looking regular LCD. I'm not looking to put a downer on your Hamilton, although I would say it is quite possibly a broken modern field effects LCD? Not a patch on that great Seiko world time, on your Avatar :)

As for the Suncrux reference, I beleive it was a quote from the Peter Doensen book. It was the first watch that had a round faced LCD display that told the time in a similar way to conventional watches - The Suncrux had LCD segments that swept around the round face, in a similar way to the hands of a conventional watch.
The other day, my computer beat me at chess. It was rubbish at kick boxing though.

Hey thanks for the reply, i often hear references to Peter Doensen's book, maybe i should look into that at some point

About this watch - i just thought because the Hamilton name was linked to Pulsar that it may be worth something, but i guess that isn't the case :)

Anyway speaking of watches in avatars, i really like yours also! can you tell me the manufacturer?

Cheers! Ric

this one has a day of week feature so it's not an early watch.
late 70's I would assume.
it has most likely a broken display or one that has lost vacuum in a way.
the early "negative" Dynamic Scattering Mode displays had a totally different technology behind.
and yep, it's not worth a buck ;)
