Gruen LCQ help

Post03 Jun 2007, 16:03

I'm reviving an old Gruen LCQ watch and have got to the reassembly point. Everything looks great and works great but I can't get the damn plastic crystal to fit back into the case. It's as though it's grown since I removed it...

Does anyone know any tips or tricks which might help me to get it back in? Would heating the case up help? I'm almost at the shaving a bit from the edge of the crystal stage :?

Any ideas would be muchos appreciated.

Could you post a picture of what you're having trouble with?

Got it back in by taking a tiny amount from the edge of the plastic crystal. Pops in and out nicely now :D

It's quite an awkward one as both the crystal and the face-plate have to come out of the front of the watch. Got to be really careful not to mark the back of the glass as it's inaccessable once it's glued back in place. I'll take some pics once it's finished but it's very similar to this...

A bit late, but putting the plastic crystal in the freezer could also work. You have to be quick because it warms up fast after you take it out of the freezer.

that's my favorite LCQ - had a dozen of them and still can't stop ;)

they were factory applied with a press and without glue so don't expect to press it back with your thumbs.
the only known method today is to grind down the sides.

the crystal is just plain flat plexiglass without a tension ring.
you can make one yourself from a piece a plexiglass
