Trying to identify LCD watch from 72-73

Post06 Sep 2007, 21:55

I am trying to identify or remember a LCD watch I bought back in early 70s
I seem to recall it was a very basic LCD model with a blue or real colored bezel
I want to say timex but not sure
us there any way to find a pic of early timex LCD watches?
thanks

It may have been later, perhaps 74? I distinctly remember having to send it back to the manufacturer for replcaement as exposure to the sun seemed to darken the LCD display in a rather irregular pattern, although the replacement did the same thing! I am not finding much on TImex so maybe it was another brand. Its price as I recall was around $80 and it was the ONLY digital watch in the dept store at the time, so as a high school kid with a love for sci fi, I had to buy one to step into the future! LOL

A common fault of early LCDs. The UV radiation killed the LC. So they added a yellowish UV filter.
If it cost only $80, it was rather later than '74. Or a real bargain ;-).

If it was Pre 1975 then Peter Wenzigs lcd gallery is a good place to look...

If it was a timex than it was probably an SSQ (Peter has one in his for sale section) but it's perhaps unlikely as they have very reliable displays. If it had a cranky display then it was possibly an Optel. They made displays for lots of watches around this time (most of which are completely black nowadays).

Here's a link for some of their watches...

Microma could be another good bet as their early displays were also a bit pants...

It's a bit "needle in a haystack" but good luck.
