The Longines LCD-LED combo watch......

Post27 Mar 2009, 18:35

I always felt this was a great cool vintage digital model. this web site has an ad image for it here....

But it seems like it also is rather silly in some respects, why bother adding a costly LED display to view at night, when one can just develop and add a back-light to the LCD display, like was done by pretty much all others in the future?? Again, nice watch, but seems like it went down the wrong tech road.

I think the watch briefly bridged the gap that existed during the period the technology to produce a back light for the LCD watch was being developed.

I think I am correct in thinking the main challenge was to produce a back light which did not consume to much power.

I think it's a great watch anyway!

And a real LED display looks MUCH more impressive at night than a simple backlit LCD.

Very true, especially before the days of the very bright Times Indiglo and Casio Electro-Luminescent lights of today.
