Can anyone ID either of these?

Post10 Aug 2009, 12:12

Got my introduction out of the way - now for my first post proper. Can anyone give me any info, model nos etc on these two watches? First is an Orient LCD, originally bought in late 1976 (I know, as it came complete with box and paperwork including guarantee), with unusual cherry red irridescent face. Secondly, a Citizen Ana-digi that I've never seen anywhere else, and which presumably dates from perhaps the mid-80s? Any info much appreciated.

p.s. had issues uploading the photos, so here's the relevant link:

... um, yeah - knew that. Thanks. I get confused with model numbers on casebacks, as there always seems to be ... erm ... a number of numbers. But I guess you'd need a photo of the casebacks to help resolve that one. The Citizen is the one I'm most puzzled about, as I see plenty of Citizen Ana-digi-temp watches (or whatever they're called) on the web (I'm sure you all know which one(s)), but never this one anywhere. But a little more info on how common (or otherwise) this and the Orient are would be interesting.

The Orient - it seems that large numbers weren't made, but they are generally quality items. They made lots of analogs, but went for quality when they dabbled in the digital market. Very under-appreciated items.

The Citizen - that's a very nice find. I think I have the same model here...generally they seems to have been loved(and worn) so much that their glass is utter crap. Very cool pieces....seems they made maybe 3 variations with the temperature guage. I have the stainless one you have and a gold-tone one which only has one analog dial. Shame that more wasn't know about them. Look at user "unaediia" s posts....he has a site dedicated to vintage LCD technology. If you find something nice there, bring the knowledge back(please)...we're not in competition, just trying to maintain the torch in our own ways. 8-)

Citizen's are sort of an unsung hero in watches(IMHO) - they were good quality and had nice features. My new son-in-law just turned his Citizen over to me because my stepdaughter was cheesed that he was wearing a watch his ex-girlfriend gave him years ago(and still working flawlessly). He got my Seiko Kinetic in exchange. :-) :!: Chicks - we'd have to kill them and eat them if not for the other kindly attributes.

roo roo
I also think the orient watches are very underated, fantastic build quality. I have one similar to yours with me at the moment but am unable to remove the caseback as I dont have the tool.
I have a similar Citizen but without the powerbar(funny enough retroLED mine has a chipped glass).
There is a gold version(I have a silver version) on my site and also some other very unusual temperature Citizens(not mine) here http://www.digitalwatchlibrary.com/DWL/1work/939/ I think when I uploaded this one the owner had the manual and gave me the date 1983 and the correct calibre (possibly very small on the dial). I love the design of the citizen watches especially the robot ana-digis but I find the case quality poor in comparison to their early coloured button models.

again great first watches for a collection

regards
