Optel DSM Timeline

Post28 Sep 2009, 10:30

I've got a couple of Optel DSM LCDs, and am wondering which came first........the flashing display or the static display.

I've read that the flashing display was an attempt to improve battery life, which indicates to me that it came after the static display type.

However, my flashing JJ DSM, like this:
http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/optel.htm
has a date on the IC of 1573

and my static JJ DSM, like this:
http://www.ledwatches.net/photo-pages/j ... gensen.htm
has a date on the IC of 3573.

This indicates to me that the flashing display came first.
Thoughts please.
Rgds.

AFIAK, flashing was first. Later, the circuitry was improved to reduce current consumption so the LCD could be kept on continuously.
I find the flashing display combined with DSM's generally poor readability quite annoying...
