Looking for SEIKO 70's watch

Post13 Oct 2016, 22:54

Hi,

Years a ago (I mean back in the 80's or 90's) a SEIKO watch my granddad owned and was passed on to me after he died got stolen.
Now I'm looking to find the watch somewhere online, but I lack a lot of info.

I've been going through some vintage Japanese SEIKO catalogues, but couldn't find the watch.
Here's what I do know.

1. It's a SEIKO
2. It's a digital LCD watch.
3. It had a grill/ speaker comparable to the SEIKO A639-5050 (see image attached)

But, for some reason I seem to remember the grill/ speaker wasn't above the display, but below (maybe I remember wrong) and I thought it had only 2 or three speaker grills instead of 5 (again I might be wrong).

Does anyone have an idea if digital LCD watches from this period had this grill below the display?
Does anyone have a clue to what model I might be referring to?

Sadly I can't find any pictures of my granddad wearing it and I don't have any of me wearing it.

Hope any SEIKO expert can help me out.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Go and have a look at my site digital-watch.com. You should be able to find it there. With three grills the watches I can think of off the top of my head are an A259 and A133.

Don't think its the watch in question but unlike most Seiko's the Seiko made ALBA LCD Y446-5000 was unsual in having the alarm on the bottom .

WOW thanks!

I'm sure it wasn't an ALBA, since it did say SEIKO on the watch and I think it came with a blue SEIKO box.
Adam: I will go though your site and try to find it.
I'm quite sure the speaker/grill was similar to the A639 model, like the one I posted and Kasper posted as well (it that the same model?)

Again probably not the right watch but the Seiko A628-5040 has the three alarm segments you remembered as well as similar looking solar panels along the bottom which maybe was what you recalled as being the alarm?

Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable
Some watches, simply are not made to last
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion
Someday perhaps, all watches will be made this way
