Piratron setting question.

Post22 Dec 2016, 20:19

Just got hold of a NOS Piratron watch. After the time and date have been set, a '0' appears on the screen. If you press the 'set' button it cycles though '0, 1, 2, 3' and then back to '0'. It appears to have no effect on the watch. Any ideas?
Steve.

Now that's a thought. I suppose there is 4 options including the 0.

Maybe set as 0 if we are in a leap year? I guess it would save having to program a perpetual calendar.

Yes, zero is the leap year setting.

Looks like a Seiko world timer which came in 5? versions all of which have the cities GMT offsets. On yours you have to do the math mentally

As an experiment; set year zero; set month 2 and cycle through the dates. You should see 02 / 29 for feb 29th leap year.

A few of the Piratrons are blatant Seiko 'copies'.

I've tried what you suggested but when setting the date, regardless of the setting the date goes up to 31! I think that when setting the date, it doesn't care what month you are in! Lol!

So if the theory is right then it should be on '0' now?

Well done guys.

Set it on 0 and on the 28/2 and at midnight it went to 29/2

Set it on 1 and on the 28/2 and at midnight it went to 01/3

Sorted! So as it was a leap year this year it's now set on 0.
