IMHO the Junghans wins hands down, its a better looking, more desirable watch by far.

Technically, the Seiko is better. It has solar cells und presumably better reception, especially in GB (where the Junghans is quite weak because it relies on Germany's DCF-77).

OTOH, the Junghans looks a LOT better. I bought mine primarily for the looks. The Seiko is quite nice, but a bit boring. Watches have been looking like this for 30 years (no, it's not retro, it's outdated). And I don't understand why the didn't make die digits larger. The display would have been large enough.

I expect the Seiko has a higher quality. In general that is, I can't speak for this specific model.

FYI: I bought my Junghans Mega 1000 in the spring of 2006. Now, after only 4,5 years, some segments of the LCD are not 100% anymore. Not that a complete segment is missing, but very small hairlines over one or two segments of the day and date segments. Fortunately not over the main large time segments, those are still in great shape.

Any suggestions please? Is it possible to regenerate those segments by temporarily increasing the contrast, for example?

I was leaning towards the junghans, but now i am not so sure. The seiko does look a little traditional, and ,no disrespect here, the made in china and the snap on back jars a little with the quality image, although i am sure its ok.The junghans ,I feel may actually need to be seen in real life,to judge the quality aspect.Has anyone bought the pvd version ? and is is similar to the blue/black coating on the mega 1 ? Also the rubber strap is for me an unknown quantity, can anyone share their experience with this version? and post some real shots?
thanks.

Can't tell about the rubber strap, but case quality of the Mega 1000 is absolutely perfect. It's flawless and precisely machined. And it has a screwed-down back (carbon/steel compound!) , not snap-on.
There are some hires photos on the web in several forums.

I have lots of "real shots" collected from auctions etc., but because I didn't make them I can't post them to the web. I could email them to you if you want (and if you can receive about 20MB).
