New E-ink smart watch

Post27 Oct 2013, 16:55

While searching for new E-ink watch designs I came across this Taiwan based watch that works with Android apps.

Called the Sonostar, the company website featuring the watch is here: http://www.sonostar.com/

Video of it in operation is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OK40fYkSNs

According to E-ink, this watch is the first one to use a 320x240 flexible Mobius E-ink display: http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/04/e-ink-mobius-hands-on/

Price on the company website is $179 Dunno if it would be for me, but I know a few people it might be useful for.

The display itself looks quite nice. I suppose I can see this doing alright for its price-point, but we'll need to see the final product to be sure. High-res pictures would be ideal.

Welcome Jon to our board from all us..enjoy your stay.

I really don't get it, they all want to connect to our smartphone. I understand the reason why, but it only works if the batteries only needs a recharge every month or year.
You can just...pick up your phone, carry it, put it on the table, plug a cable in etc..all with ease. But will you also open your watch everyday to plug it in to recharge? I have 1 (3.5 year old) mobile phone watch, i have 2 lcd picture watches, i have a mobile tv watch..all need charging at a regular base..no we just don't do it.
The only watch with new technology that is worth calling a watch is the seiko's e-inkt watches and the new phosphor touch time digital watch.
http://www.phosphorwatches.com/Touch-Time-s/41.htm

Why? : Over 1 year of battery life with replaceable coin cell battery (CR2450), thats why...a watch needs to be in the background on your wrist...you have to forget about it, but it has to be there when you need it.

why do i have to see who is calling on my watch when i have a smartphone in my other hand. They need each other to be in range (bluetooth), so what is the purpose then? :bang: still puzzles me :-D
Hey you all...this board is FREE and without ADS, so at least post something every now and then to show your appreciation.

I think Kasper has nailed it when it comes to convenience, it's one of the reason's I settled for the Seiko E-ink. You just wear them to tell the time and don't worry about charging it or plugging it in every few days, or being within a certain distance from your cell phone for it to receive and transmit info from the phone.

I think it's a neat watch, but I know myself that I'll forget or be annoyed that it needs charged every week or less.

I have a Ricoh 'Shrewd reminder', the only new watch that I have purchased. I should do a posting on it.

Back to the topic, it is LED and analog and gorgeous to use. It comes with an induction charger, six alarms, three countdown timers, one stopwatch , three timezones, an alarm and alarm vibrator plus an led flashlight; all built into a traditional looking analog watch. In fact, you would never know it did all those things just looking at it. To recharge it uses a little stand plugged into the wall. You place the watch on the stand overnight when you get the two second analog second hand jump. This occurs once every two months of wearing and demonstrating the watch to co workers.

So you can have a battery eater which can charge over night with no plugging in. Simply place the watch on the stand like you would with your toothbrush (rechargeable).
