G. Gerlach Unitra homage

I wasn’t sure if this should go in the modern LED watch section, or the famous people wearing LED watch thread as it covers both really, but anyway here it is..

Looks like a pretty wide spread used modern led module shown in many cheap watches on ebay, but with a nicer case.Good to see one with a sapphire glass though, but a shame the module looks lcd back lit with those thick segments although they are led.

That’s exactly what I thought when I first saw it, but I think maybe the photos aren’t doing it justice, you’d think they’d have done better photos for the promo images.

I don’t believe that’s a back lit LCD, I think the photos give that appearance but I believe it’s LED.

Ok , after some research on the internet, I understand witch technologie is it, it's look like that (see pics) but this has nothing to do with the old original LED watches.

it's a nice watch but expensive compared to technology, you can find the moderne copy of vintage LED watches for a few USD.

What do you mean? They are using the modern LE display module, but the technology is exactly the same.

Anyway no one said it had anything to do with the original 70s LEDs, these type of modern LED watch displays have been about for years.

Whaaat, only ± 60 s / month?

Post11 Jun 2018, 20:52

I have to agree that display design and button layout suggests the movement is the same as in several modern el-cheapo LED digital watches.
The rate variations are within ± 60 s / month, according to the home page of G. Gerlach. That is substantially more than the ± 10-20 s / month one can expect from ho-hum quartz movements.

Hm. Dropping a suitable movement from Strikes and Spares into the Kosmonauta case is tempting, considering the possibility to obtain a watch which is nice from the inside out. I fear, however, that just because it would be a cool trick, it will turn out to be utterly impossible.
