Citizen Multifrequenz Radio Controlled Kal.7400

Post07 Feb 2012, 01:04

Here she is...like it or not, worlds first analog radio controlled wristwatch with integrated antenna.
That is right the big thing in the middle is the antenna.
It's from the early 90's not a LED not an LCD but Radio Controlled Analog Non - Digitals with Hands.
Took some time and had some help from a great forum member Rewolf :-D
Finally i managed to obtain one.

In used condition but fully functional, so i can wear it without worrying about if i scratch it or not. !@@!

Oh, you already got it - now that was fast :-D. On your photos it doesn't appear to be very used.

Looks very "retro" with the huge visible antenna coil, could date from the 1920s.
Is there any other RC watch with visible antenna?

@rewolf, no i dont have it yet the pictures are from the seller but it's on it's way. :-D
I'm not sure if there are other watches that have the antenna integrated and visible like this.
I think it's the only one...but if anyone knows of others please do share this info with us. ;-)
It's in good shape for a used watch it has some small chipping of the glass/crystal around the edges but that is all.

Specialities: Multifrequency receiver, receiving all three clock signal stations in Germany, UK and Japan, 2 Local Times, 24 hours display (GMT) day / date display with two hands.

Citizen did make one that has it on the side, i think i've seen a picture on the forum here of it.

@Kasper, yes i will take a wristshot and post it as soon as it arrives.
Indeed a museum piece, in 1993 its 7 hands technology and the extraordinary design of the antenna positioned in the middle of the dial earned a space in the Museum of Modern Art

The copper antenna is encased in the thick mineral crystal, protruding ca. 2 mm.
While you could argue that esthetically, this is a pretty clumsy approach,
as an engineer you would simply smile because you knew this position is pretty smart as it allows for the best reception.
What might seem "esthetically clumsy" to a "normal person"
might as well be an eye candy for an engineer and vice versa.

Sorry this one is a little blurry.

I bought a second one on eBay listed as defect, just for the original manual and extra bracelet links.
And thought i'd give it a shot at trying to get it running again.

The seller had it cleaned and battery replaced at the jeweller in autumn 2011, he had it as a daily wearer,
since he bought it from a jeweller in 1994.
Then the bracelet was broken and he had it repaired, however when he got it back the date hand
was hanging too far down...he had it repaired under warranty....well repaired?
It was now no longer running at all! :x
The jeweller had told him the watch would have to be sent back to the factory for repairs,
and that the costs of repairing would be more then the value of the watch.

The seller wanted to hand it down to his oldest son,
but now it was no longer working decided to sell it on eBay.

I bought it for 82Euro's, when it arrived it was as dead as could be...so i decided to open it up.
Lifted the module partially out of its case, blew some air in it, rubbed the back with a dry cloth.
In order to clean the fingerprints i left behind.
Pushed all the buttons i could find, theres also one inside that said "Push here"
No idea what it does...
Still it did not run, i decided to pop the module back into it's case...kinda giving up reanimation
was a difficult task since the push buttons were not allowing it back into it's position.
So with some wiggling of a knife it finally popped back in.
I screwed back the caseback....and decided to spank my watch... !@@!

WOW!! reanimation was succesful....i now have a working watch!
I even got it to synchronize with the radiosignals...and it has worked perfectly since. :-D

Mine appears to be working OK?

Bottom left of the image are three boxes -

1. Crop and Rotate
2. Edit file information
3. Delete this file

Edit file information allows you to add title, description etc.

@Bucko, that is strange, when i go to the gallery it wants me to log in on the DWF.NU old site.
when i try to log in i get back to the strikesandspares site.
So it wont even let me log in.

@Kasper, i used a "zelfontspanner" delayed action release
and a tripod you can just see the tripods leg in the picture if you look closely....
Push the button HUG the camera wait and say cheese... M:)W:)M
