Just got hold of my first Retro LED watch

Post10 Jan 2010, 03:13

Hi all..

Feel really embarrassed that my first post is a question. :(

Its a case of needed to find info and came across this forum.

I was round my uncles house on Christmas day and got talking to him about a watch he used to own in the mid 70's.

I remembered it as i used to sneek into his bedroom and press the button to display the LED time on it. I will never forget that.

To my suprise he said he still had it...WOW i couldn't believe it.

Whats more he said it didn't work so i could take it away and try to fix it.

I found the modern version of the batteries and found that the watch still didnt work.

I opened the watch and found that the module inside was cracked in half. ( see photo )

Question is can i replace this.. It is a 25 mm module with time button at 1 oclock and set button at 3 oclock.

I have searched for Limit International but can't find it on the net anywhere.?

The watch needs a good clean and buff up but looks great on the wrist and i really want to get this bad boy working.

Hello Rik welcome to the forum.

Nice watch!

It might be worth keeping an eye out on eBay, look for similar watches in working condition with the same button configuration as many different manufacturers used the same modules, if you do find one be sure to ask the seller to measure the size of the module to make sure you have the correct fit.

Or try Ed Cantarella the forum owner (retroleds) he has a good stock of old parts and might be able to supply the module you require.

Good luck.

Many thanks for the reply bucko170 :)

I will take a look across there to see what can be done.

If i get the watch working and nicely cleaned up i will post a new picture of it. :)

Just put a couple of bids on two eBay auctions.

One for a working Retro watch with the same setup as mine.
( hope to use the module in my watch. If not its a nice watch anyway. )

The other is a job lot of Retro LED watches. Some work, some don't.

Two days to see if my maximum bid gets them.. :-D

Top left should have a Hughes 25mm module.
Top right should have a Hughes 29mm module.
Middle right I would guess at a NSC module.
Second one up from the left is a Texas Instruments LED.
Not sure about the other two.

So if they are present you should have a nice range of different modules to play with and who knows you might get lucky and find a worker....might.

Lets hope your lucky.

I won a job lot of watches for $40 recently and all were ruined by battery leaks except one - A Pulsar P4 Executive SS in near mint condition and fully working so there's always hope.
