Zoesandra, a dwf member, used to offer this service on ebay for ~$100. Dont know what depth of plate it was though, I suspect it would be very thin?

You could also do a quick google for something like 'gold plating solution'. I did one and got loads of links like this. Mind you some, like this link use cyanide, so be very carefull when you use it, but others are much safer.

I used to do gold electroplating at home - not of watches, though, just of jewelry (rings) and coins.

Yes, the solution is cyanide based, so don't inhale the fumes or do the plating inside. I did it outside, sat upwind, and wore rubber gloves. Instant death can be the result if you're not careful.

Also, gold is a very soft metal so the plating is not very durable.
LED watches are quiet and polite. No ticking, no tocking, no beeping, no buzzing; they will only tell you the time when you ask to see it and they will do so instantly with no attention-seeking animations. A more civilized watch for a more civilized age.

There is a plating shop where I work they have cayanide antidote at hand just incase someone gets a dose of this stuff.

It's very very nasty...

No, they don't do gold before anyone asks.!!!
