Crystal frequency on a Pulsar P2.

Post15 May 2008, 10:55

I've got the 'classic' "0" on the display on a P2, and it seems like I will need to replace the crystal. Which frequency is the crystal on the early P2, and where is the easiest place to get it?

Could this also be a problem with the trimmer (bad solder/connection)?

32,768 Hz - so you can take one from pretty much any dead quartz watch (except for those with hughes modules). You can buy new ones by doing a search on ebay or most electronic supply stores stock them.

It's worth bearing on mind that you should always check the crystal before taking it out (hook it up to a cheap lcd watch with it's crystal removed - if it runs then your Pulsars crystal is fine). It's also worth trying silver oxide cells on your watch as the slightly higher voltage sometimes does the trick.

There have been a couple of threads on this forum referring to a common problem Pulsars have with degradation in a sensor under the IC causing the oscillator to fail. If this is the case then replacing the quartz won't help and you'll need to fit an oscillator chip.

Hope you get it running again - DB.
