Seiko A031-5000 Glass Question

Post12 Jan 2012, 17:19

Hi,

Received an A031-5000 today in reasonable used condition. I think this is the Asian or non-European version of the A031. The metal surround of the glass could do with a polish but its not 100% clear if this surround Steel or Chrome. Anyone know one way or the other for sure?

I don't mind leaving it to be safe as the watch was pretty cheapo. But other than a few nicks on the case its the only scruffy bit on there. :-(

I'm like 98% sure it's stainless. You are obviously worried whether it is plated..unless the back indicates base metal, you are safe.

OK thanks for the reassurance.

The back of the watch says stainless steel so I'll get buffing :-)

I had a painful experience recently with a pretty cool 70s Citizen Automatic in a big faceted glass case. Had 'Stainless Steel' on the back so I gave it a quick buff with 2000 and Tcut and the f'ing ring around the crystal was plated and is now 'kin brassed. :x :x :x
