Pulsar P2 advice please

Post10 May 2012, 17:58

I recently won a P2 in a lot. It seems in nice condition. It was missing a caseback and retaining ring which has now been supplied by Greg(thanks Greg).

Now my problems.

1 I havent started cleaning yet so the photos are the before. How do I remove the bracelet? I can see screw heads but they are very tight and I dont want to damage them. Is it a case of soaking them?

2 There are some unusual extras attached to the module . Do these need to be removed?

3 I have seen the module working but stuck on the seconds, this hopefully will be resolved when number 2 is.

Thanks in advance

Adam

the little brass piece is the trimmer. it is dislodged from its seat which in the photo is just to the right . it fits in that little curved projection. there appears to be evidence of corrosive salts following the cell terminals into the bottom side of the module. i have one like yours in about the same condition as yours. not to be negative, but mine is still in the scrap bin.  peter

Peter I have had it running but it just flicks past time to seconds and stays there. Hopefully not too bad or ill have to save up and get one from Hanno. I havent paid too much so far as I found it in a lot.

is the brass trimmer touching the qc can? if it is that could be the problem. i would try gently easing it [the trimmer] back to its rightful position. if you remove the 2 screws on the edge of the module you can take it out and check the reed switches for corrosion that may be shorting things out. it good to hear that it is functioning well otherwise. i have one of these that is working well. i also have a TI that performs like your. pushing the time and holding should send it to seconds, but on my TI pushing the button flashes time and goes to date. i am not sure if that is abutton/switch problem or in the chip itself. maybe someone else could chime in on this. peter

Here's a pic of my working pulsar, showing the correct position of the trimmer and showing that the wire is supposed to be soldered to the housing of the trimmer.

Thanks Guys
I will have more of a look tomorrow. what about the wayward piece of metal bent over into the battery compartment is that meant to be there or connected to anything? Is there a photo anywhere of the correct module broken down. Also what about the bracelet is it screwed on?

many thanks

Is that two wires on the trimmer then? obviously it has one already other wise it would have fallen off.

I guess... On my pic you see two solder blobs for the two wires. You should be able to see the other wire when you look on the other side of the module.

Another thought, you say the watch shows the time and then get stuck on the seconds. Could it just be a broken/sticking reed switch? Like you keep pressing the right button? That would be relatively easy to diagnose/repair :-D

Well we have life! yippee its keeping time, he other wire is now just touching the trimmer until I see a photo of how to reattach it. The button is sticking, its getting better the more I use it but is there any maintenance I can do to make it work more smoothly.
I do have one more major problem. I'm not sure it can be fixed but I can live with it if not. my 4 is a Y and my 7 and backwards C they are both lighting up the bottom bar on all digits.

The magnet works well for changing the time.

Still need to know how to remove the bracelet.

Thanks for any advice

Bracelet is easy to remove. is hold by to right hand screw pins. use a good flat driver that fits perfect
don't force things, if necessary apply some lubricant Like WD40 or the like let it sit then try again.

Congratulations with the progress :)

According to my pic the loose piece of wire is soldered to the right side of the trimmer.

About the missing digits, after installing batteries my pulsar also showed half numbers, after setting the watch, cycling through all the numbers it was fine. Let's hope that's also the case with your watch, otherwise the display may have loose wire bonds or bad solder joints?
