Yes Synchrons can suffer from some pretty bad corrosion problems.

I bought a "kit" from EBay with 10 modules in various states of disrepair. It will be new PCB and programming again.

Half way through PCB design though.

Just curious but which micro did you use ? - I don't think you mentioned it..
I'm in the electronics business but my practical skills are near useless - sales only.

Hi JS.

All I can say is I put a fair deal of research into what uP to use. I dont really want to give too much away but my main selection criteria were:

Low power consumption
Good pinout IO count
Package size and diversity
The availability of free training material on the web
The ability to run an external 32.768Khz XTAL
