one of my all time favorite watch, the handok dot matrix lcd, suddenly starts fading..not one but all digits.

first i think it's the batt but no, then i opened her up and checked everything..still looks the same as before...it happend on a short noticed..so no
degradation on the polarizer. Bat what can it be then?
i have to keep the lcd in a very skew angle to see it.
