Oh No! I spoke too soon! - Optel Segtronic

Post11 Feb 2013, 01:51

A few days ago, I was happy to see that my newly purchased Optel Segtronic "gold Tone" was working with a new battery installed, but LOOK NOW! Wow, I have some terrible luck when it comes to some of these vintage LCD's.

Sad :-(

Hi Patrick,
I have two that behaves the same way whenever the temperature inside of the house is higher than 78 F.
But whenever gets bellow that, or if I blow some cold air on them, they start to work again (dark spots and a "fake bleeding" inside of the screen disappears).
Do you have it in a hot room temperature?
I don't know how to fix it, but I know to make them look normal at least :-D
Let me know if works for you :Hi:

Hi Laptop,

Yes, My Wife keeps the heater on in the house because it is cold here in California whee I am located. Let me try a cold area, and see if that works.

Just to ask...

1) Can the LCD panels on these models be replaced?

2) Does anyone here have a replacement?

I just thought I would try.

So, even if the temperature drop it still doesn't work (get better)?!
If you put your finger genteelly on the display does the heat of your body make the situation worse?!
On the case of my watches even holding it in my hand it starts to act up and gets darks wherever the hand is touching the watch itself. It seems to be very sensitive.
Im sorry if this doesn't apply to your watch, but I just wanted to share my experience with my two watches : (
I hope somebody else can help us : (

Laptop,

No, not the same thing as your watches. I think OldTom made a comment about the Segtronic a long time ago stating the LCD panels were very sensitive. Maybe someday I will find a replacement for it. Thank you anyway. :-)

Ade51,

I saw that one :-).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/160980842824?ss ... 1438.l2649

Apparently, it is from the Louis Zanoni collection, but I would rather get a really beat up one because I cannot afford a watch anywhere close to $249.00 :-( . Too bad for me. What I need to have happen is someone post a wreck of a Optel Segtronic (Gold or SS), and have the price go as far as $50.00 US max, and I get lucky and win. After that, I need to get twice as lucky, and harvest a operating LCD panel from it. Seems like a pipe dream for now, but who knows!

Thank you guys,

Greg Zanoni the seller on eBay and son of Louis has a stash of displays.
When I asked last year the DSM panel cost some 200$ alone but the FE type was much cheaper. Just send the seller an email.

They like to be in front of the air conditioner vent :-P
Patric this is what I thought that your watch was suffering of.
