Easter project : 52QS-14

Post30 Mar 2013, 12:25

ciao a tutti e Happy Easter everyone !

I have purchased a non working 52QS-14 for a fair price, and I'm starting this new project.

A NOS glass is on my way, this part of the project should be easy ... :-D

The module was somehow working, but very unstable and here you will see why :

I have used a soft brush and a mixture of 50% of water and 50% of vinegar and I have removed most of
the corrosion, bringing back to life the module, except for the light, since the bulb is broken.

Now, to the forum :

1. still there are some micro parts of corrosion attached to the board, how can I clean it thoroughly
2. the case : i would like to sand it and bring it back to good conditions, but I'm afraind to erase the thin engraving on the front, any idea ?

Thanks again and Happy Easter to everyone of you !!
Alberto

you can use a stronger descaler (to get rid of lime in a coffee expresso machine like senseo). Mine is called fast descaler from swirl. You can use it in washing and coffee machines, iron etc. just a little bit on a wadding stick.

i put a small piece of tape over the ingravings and then sand or polish the rest..yes its handwork :-D

I will post more pictures soon, I'm waiting the arrival of the glass to finish the polishing of the case.

I have noticed that the buttons are not all the same size, am'I correct ?

Does anyone know the correct positioning ?
One seems smaller and I suspect is the button for the setting function.

I also will try to replace the light, recovering the bulb from an old casiotron non working module

Also, any idea on how to remove the glass ?
It seems there is no gasket and the glass seems glued directly onto the case.

thanks again anyone, Alberto

Re: Easter project : 52QS-14 UPDATE

Post29 Apr 2013, 14:04

ciao a tutti,

this is how far I have gone with this project, the glass has arrived and I have tried to polish at my best
the case, I'm attaching some pictures and I will wait for any comments or suggestions.

There a bunch of things I can't do and I need some advice :

1. buttons
I have cleaned the holes and the buttons, but still they are not smooth as I would like, they still require some
effort to be pushed and they do not return properly in the rest position, I have tried both oil and grease,
but nothing, any idea ?

2. satin look
the module should have a satin finish (matte) on the front, I have tried several methods, including
very fine sandpaper and iron wool as well, but I'm afraid to erase the already faint lettering, still,
it doesn't have the look I wish it should ...

3. module
at the change of the battery, the display some time works, some time flashes with no reason, the module
has been all cleaned thru, what else can I try ?

Thanks in advance Alberto
