Removing the module from a Seiko 0124-0049

Post24 Apr 2013, 21:36

ciao a tutti,

I'm in the progress of restoring a Seiko 0124 recently acquired.
It is in non working condition, and it was VERY dirty.

However, I have managed to open it, but I cannot remove the module.
I have been able to remove the stem, but it looks like there is nothing I can do to free
the module from the case and inspect the module condition.

I would like to see if apart from the LCD which is obviuosly broken there is something else ...

Any hint, will be greatly appreciated, I'm attaching some pictures, just in case ....

Thanks in advance Alberto

it does swing in both ways, but very very little
and not enough to let the module slip out,
how much should it rotate ?

thanks alberto

Your last photo shows the ring in the locked position. From here rotate it anti-clockwise about 40degrees - you will see the three locking tabs in the white plastic ring 'appear' in the top left and two bottom corner cut-outs in the metal. Then you can remove the movement.

ciao a tutti,

thanks to Quietman I have been able to remove the module from the case.
There was some oxidation but nothing too bad and the module has been cleaned.

Now the question I have for the most expert people is :
before I invest some money in a new LCD panel, how can I test if the module is working ?
Is there any way to find out that the module is alive ?

Also, please look at the next message ...
Thanks again Alberto

One of the problem this watch had was the retaining system for the stem.

If you look at the two following picture you will notice that the
spring is complete e correctly mounted :

while in this picture :

the same spring is broken and partially still in the module,
but I need a replacement.

Seiko part # is 637-001 Stem Setting Spring, does anyone know where I can get one ?

Thanks again for your help and advices
Alberto
