Polish scratches out of glass and sapphire

Post13 Jan 2014, 10:27

Well i always thought that scratched sapphire or glass crystals can only be replaced until i found this stuff: Diamond polish paste!

Really useful, especially if you have a glass that is rare and hard to replace. But be aware that you also polish off all logos and stuff!

There are other sellers as well, but this one offers a complete set for a reasonable price... Takes about an hour and my fingers did hurt after it but really worth the pain. Search for "Diamantpaste" or "Diamond polish". Start with lower numbers (like 600) and work off to the highest one (12000) for perfect polished glass.

Thanks for sharing, how about a felt disc and some rotations?
I still use cerium dioxide and it works well to a mirror finish.

One of the sites we carry out work at, is an industrial valve repairer.I set one of their lapping tables up to polish an omega crystal. The machine automatically feeds diamond paste onto the bed.The results weren't very good tbh, the scratches went but so did the pronounced sharp angles of the crystal

You always need a machine to do it..just to keep it an even polish. It take time indeed.

Cerium dioxide is way cheaper then these diamond pastes.

You can achieve a sharp edge only if you invest a few days of work.
You can remove the big scratches with abrasive paper and a felt disc and finish with manual work on 3M lapping film on a hard surface.
Not sure if it is worth it as it takes ages.
