Without caseback: works, with caseback: doesn't!

Post15 Jun 2015, 14:32

Hi guys,

I have this kind of strange problem with my Mido CD Quartz, with ESA 9315 module.

The original module was eaten by the acid, so I bought a NOS ESA 9315 (same as the original one).
The module works fine, all the functions work properly, but when I place the caseback and press the buttons, they don't work at all :bang:.

What kind of problem is this? First time in my life I see something strange like this....

Thanks ;-)

Something making an unwanted connection with the case back and shorting out?

Put some tape on the inside of the caseback as a test.

Unless it's some strange coincidence it must be that something is or was making an unwanted contact with the case back. Could the watch be missing its original plastic isolating cover between the case back and the module?

Glad to hear that you go it working again. :-D

It seems that works only with the tape inside. That's not fine :-?.

There was no plastic before (the module was the same, just marked Mido instead ESA), so I don't know why it happens....

Im not sure its the same for all these 9315 modules. The screws at 9 o clock an three o clock usually have a small piece of metal to hold the movement in place inside the case, yours doesnt have these. Maybe this is letting the module short on the case back.

Try putting small pieces of tape in different positions on the caseback.
You'll eventually pinpoint where the short is :mega:

Wow, I think you have just discovered the cause of the problem!!

Actually, watching some pictures on Google, every ESA 9315 have those small pieces of metal....now the question is: where can I found them :mega:?

If nothing else it shouldn't be too difficult to make some by sniping a bit out of an aluminium drinks can and shaping to size.

Hey Ale...is the watch still working fine now? ;-)

:dwf:
Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable
Some watches, simply are not made to last
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion
Someday perhaps, all watches will be made this way
