Seiko 0662-5009 removing case back

Post18 Feb 2012, 18:14

I am having trouble with removing the case back from a Seiko 0662-5009. There seem to be two slots at 12:00 and 6:00 on the back of the case that would allow a tool of some kind to pop the case back open. If anyone knows the correct tool to use for this would be appreciated.

Thank you,

There is a special Seiko tool for removing this but it is VERY hard to find. It is correct to say that you remove the back by pressing into the top slots, top & bottom but be aware that you are depressing a small piece of spring steel out of a cutout and if, after 30+ years, muck has accumulated under the spring it can be hard to push it in sufficiently to remove the back. I usually use a large handled screwdriver with the tip ground down to fit the slot- this gives more than enough pressure to deal with the most stubborn of these springs. The action is to press the spring in and then lever the back up a little, repeat on alternative sides till the back pops off, DON'T try and remove the whole of one side at once.

Alright,

Thank you both. I will see if I have anything close to a large handle screwdriver described by OldTom. Meanwhile, is ITEM "FB-210" on this website the correct tool for opening the case backs to the 0662-5009?

http://www.tztoolshop.com/page78.html

The reason I need to open this watch is because it is broke. The seconds segments are still flashing, and when I push the light button on the watch, the seconds reset to "00." In order to fix this problem, I would need to get the case back open, and I would need to look at the "Stem Spring." I think it may be fixed by removing the stem spring, and adding some greese to it. Somehow the stem spring, or the stem has been pushed-in too far or pulled out to far. This caused the watch to be placed into "Set Mode" permanently.

Anyway.

Thank you

I have a question,

Is this the case opener for this watch model? Here is the link to the eBay auction. Would anyone know?

Flashing seconds on early Seikos is a low battery indicator so when you push the light button the current drain will be more than the battery can supply comfortably and the main circuit will drop below the reset points and back to "00" you go! Unlikely ot be the springs, more likely contamination on the circuit board, especially the voltage sensing resistor. Proper clean normally fixes this.

The tools you are looking at are not the correct ones- the case back knife is for modern snap backs with the small slot, the twin tooth opener is for early twin sprung slot Seikos (AO29,AO39 etc).
