removing the crown stem from a 0532-5009

Post18 Feb 2012, 23:52

Dear All,

I would like to remove the module from this Seiko,
for polishing the glass, cleaning the bezel (if possible) and polish the case.
However, I can't find a way to remove the stem without disassembling
the mechanical parts, which I would gladly avoid ...
Does anyone has ever done it before ?
thanks in advance for help, take care Alberto

albertofenini,

Here, Try Adam's website:
http://www.digitalwatchlibrary.com/DWL/ ... 0532-5009/

Download the available technical manual, and there is directions on removing the crown and stem from the module. You may have to use tools (slot Screwdrivers) to do this though.

Anyway, to polish the crystal, you may want to use cerium oxide, and for the case some metal polish, and just buff it to a mirror finish, this if you do not own a bench top buffer.

Maybe you already know all this, so I apologize if I an rambling on.

Thanks Patrick,
I know that site, I have the manual, but still, is not clear how to remove it,
whether I have to unscrew some parts or not.

I have posted a topic on polishing a glass, using the cerium oxide.

http://www.strikesandspares.net/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=5028

In this case, there is something between the glass and the bezel that looks like oil,
and I would like to try to clean it, this is way I would like to remove the module.

Thanks anyway,
Alberto

Just push the little pin down, just right of the small screw.push it in and pull the stem. the small pin closes to the stem.

I'm not sure about removal but isn't this one of the only models with acrylic glass? I have a one somewhere I'll open it up, have a look and get back to you.

ciao a tutti, this is where I have gone so far ...
The next two pictures are a view of the bezel from the back of the watch once the module
has been removed :

IMG00907.jpg

IMG00908.jpg

it would looks that there is no way to take it out from this side.
I have used a sharp knife all around, but it didn't came out.
However, because of the knife inserted, it had slightly enough
changed the shape, so that the module did not fit in to the watch
anymore.

With some sandpaper, I have slimmed the module and enlarged
the bezel, so that it goes in back again.

Still, the curiosity on how and from which side this bezel can removed remains,
so if any has ever done it, pleast post a comment on it.

Polishing :

I have sandpapered the glass, yes is in plexiglass, and the front of the watch.
The finest grade I have is 2000, then, it has been polished, but I can't get the
mirror look I would like to see.

Also, there is a comparison between the left side (which I have began to treat at 3 am this
morning) andthe stem side, which is untouched.

I know it's far from being fineshd, but please, tell me it was worth .... :-D

Bracelet :

I'd like to remove it, but I'm afraid to bend it too much trying to take it out,
if anyone has ever done it, again, any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks again, take care Alberto

Alberto
The bracelet is not too difficult to remove they are just small spring bars that need to be eased open with a small implement just like your normal watches. Its is a fiddly job though.

alberto, the bezel is the metal case that sits round the platic glass...the raised part...so normally you could clip it off...andy correct me if i,m wrong.

So what's the name of blue plastic part that I have broken ?
Do you mean that the part of the case with the glass should pop out ?

Some results (part 1)

Case and glass has been polished, polishing plexiglass seems easier than polishing mineral glass,
but is not. Is very easy toburn the plexiglass by using an high speed, it has happened to me,
it has happened with this watch as well, while trying to polish the bezel face...

IMG00916.jpg

IMG00917.jpg

IMG00919.jpg

I'm not very happy with the face, which is not mirror like,
but considering as it was at the beginning ...

How can I improve the case polishing ?

Thanks to everybody, Alberto

Some results ... (part 2)

The bracelet has been removed, and will be restored soon.
However, one of the spring bars didn't want to come out,
and the results is shown ...

Is very common to find new spring bars of this size ???

Some results (part 3 - the most difficult)

The most difficult part, is now to put the module back.
Don't ask me why, but there is no way to take the stem out again from the module ...

The other problem is that with the module out, the stem is moving correctly,
pushing movement works and makes the light turn on, rotation movement works
and makes the calendar appear for two seconds, taking the crown out put the module
in set condition. Everytinhg works like a charm.

But, probably because of the morphing of the blue plastic part, which I had to somehow
reduce in order to re-accomodate the module, when the module is in the case and the
stem is inserted, the pushing movement is very slow and often tend to lock, leaving the
light on.

I believe because the stem and the hole for the stem in the case are not aligned as
they should...

Because of this, I had to put and remove the stem several (a lot ....) times.

However, now, the stem is not getting out from the module anymore,
even pushing the very hard the point close to the screw is not working ...
(BTW, I do have the screw missing from the picture....)

IMG00921.jpg

And this is where I need your help, since I don't want to risk to break everything .....

Thank you very much for support,
take care Alberto
