Seiko A039-5019 Disassembly: help please?

Post06 Apr 2013, 02:38

Hello folks,

My first post here. Thanks to Hanno for registering me.

So....I recently purchased this Seiko A039-5019 and I am setting out to disassemble it for a clean and service. My problem is I can't figure out how to remove the Caseband (see attached picture from the A039 Technical Manual and picture of watch itself) -- apparently there is a Seiko tool that can be used to open up the A029/A039 series Casebands, but obviously this would be hard to obtain. It's very easy to remove the caseback (it comes right off once you unscrew the battery compartment) but I can't figure out how to proceed further, and there aren't any obvious springs to press on.

I would be grateful if anyone could assist me. Thank you!

As a follow up to my earlier post, I believe the Seiko tool for opening these watches was a "twin tooth opener for twin sprung slot Seikos" (information gleaned from another DWF post).

If someone knew of a way of disassembling the case without one of these tools, that would be great!

if i remember it correctly, the module just pops out. i see the case has a little bump at the other side of the pin..maybe that is holding it in place?

or wait...it has small springs at the top and bottom...so you have to push them in the get it out! look for the small gap on top in the case...its there so you can push the spring of the module to get it out.

update found a picture of mine

Hi and welcome :Hi:

You can push in a spring (circle on the bottom of the picture) with a small screwdriver and then flip the screwdriver.
This goes for the bottom spring as well as the top spring.
Then the 2 halves come apart.

BTW
If you have it apart ,and you can't get the crown removed, just post a picture of the inside, then i can tell you what to do. ;-)

Thanks to Kasper and Seiko&Casio Lcd's for your suggestions and tips!

I have now successfully opened up the case. Now that I've had a look at it, I can see how the spring is designed. I did try pushing in the locations indicated before but I obviously didn't press hard enough (I was too scared of breaking something!). I'm glad to have sought the assistance of this forum.

Here are some photos and a close up of the case spring.

It came with a Seiko signed bracelet -- XNA130 -- which looks appropriate for the period but I don't think it's the original. Other sites list it as coming with the B316 bracelet.

Looks like a previous owner has done some case polishing to it, and a NOS crystal fitted as well. But it functions just fine, and I'm enjoying wearing it!

I took some more pictures of my A039-5019, so I thought I'd post them up!

Thanks for posting.
Yes, the B316 is the original band that's correct.
I remember now, this module comes out easy, with some seiko's you have to push in a lever to free the crown and pull it out.
Not necessary with this model.
