Digital watches you would never sell

Post21 Jan 2007, 20:02

Hi everyone,

I was looking though my lot to see which ones will soon have to find new homes as I don't need 60+ watches. But there are some which I can't bring myself to sell.

Here's a few of my keepers...

Armitrom Pocket Watch

Compu Chron Pocket Watch

Fairchild

President Stainless Steel

Waltham

I think it's a Microsonic but I'am not 100% sure

Imado

CBM Time, I know its nothing special to look at but it has selectable 12-24hr time with alphanumeric DOTW also a selectable four step display brightness setting.

I'd really like to see what you guy's would never part with...

The Cronus LED stopwatches are very nice I've got a couple as well, if any of the LED segments ever burn out Commodore calculator 8 digit LED displays fit straight on.

Do you have any pictures of the tonyb I working.

Short of a pistol put to my head, or some other similarly life-threatening situation, I cannot imagine anything that would induce me to part with:

My first P1
18K Executive
18K Euro Calculator
Any more GRIMA watches

And though it would sorely pain me to do so, MAYBE I might part with:

HP-01
Gold GP Drivers'

Even die-hard mechanical watch collectors show these proper respect.

That's a very nice Pulsar Mr Frequency, what’s the weight of something like that in 18K.

I thought there would be a lot more response on this topic, it seems most people's LED's must be for sale then... :)

It is a bitter fact of life that, offered enough money, most people will part with virtually any posession [except maybe their children, but in some parts of the world, even that is not unknown]. I think what we're trying to gauge here is the DEGREE to which we would resist, but it has been pointed out that "every man has his price". We are no exceptions.

I collect mechanical wristwatches as well as quartz (analogue and digital) and think I would sell my digitals before some of the mechanicals purely because my "wind ups" have a higher residual value and increase quite a lot every year whereas the LED's seem to be static.
For example I have an Omega Seamaster 600 "PloProf" which I bought for £1000 2 years ago and has just been valued by Bonhams at £3000 (auction) £6000 (insurance).
I seem to be stuck in the 70's as all my mechanicals are from that era as well!!

I always thought I'd never sell my Breitling 9106 Navitimer, but when i was offered 3 times as much as i paid for it, i couldn't resist....

I'm keeping my pocket watches, Hughes programmable message and green compuchron, at least until someone gives me an offer I cant deny... :D

The only one I won't sell for sure is my frankie P3 on which my friend Ale spend some times on it.
The rest is just a question of price...

For the rest of my watches it is just a question of price I guess...

Here's a few I did sell, but only because I had spares. I have no plans to sell the spares though :)

But then again, things can change over time, so who knows what'll happen in the future. Sometimes I do get bored with my collection, and the only thing stopping me from selling is knowing how hard it'll be to start again from the begining!
The other day, my computer beat me at chess. It was rubbish at kick boxing though.

I would stay with the:
- Bulova SS Bigblock
- Pulsar SS P3
- maybe Wittnauer SS Polara 125

but to be exact I will probably sell all my LEDs within the next ten years and just leave the above mentioned.
I'd rather buy more mechanicals as these will be almost eternal in comparison to LEDs which will go dead within the next 20-30 years.
what's the use in keeping a collection of dead watches

I like to think by that time it will be easy to create replica modules for LED's and even LCD's, obviously it will no longer be original and may not even be worth much in a collectors market but i like to think i can still have a working watch in years to come

Just my opinion.

PS - I dont collect to invest thats why i never plan to pay over £100 (ok maybe more like £150 :)) for any digital watch, as for mechanicals - well i have spent waaaayy over that amount

some have already mentioned also LCDs in this thread so go ahead :D
as for dead watches, I guess that they will also be collectible in a way in 30 years but having this in mind I would never buy an electronic watch above 500$ (or even the P1) as it could go bust in 20 years time OR on the next day.

I would never sell my GP (Makrolon), even although it stopped working a few months after I bought it :( (oscillator/crystal problem, I still hope I can fix it one day...)
