The "I'm Watch": Another VaporSmartWatch

Post30 Oct 2011, 06:48

Here's an announcement of another smartwatch thingy:
http://the-gadgeteer.com/2011/06/06/im-watch-android/
http://live.imwatch.it/

On the plus side:
It connects to your phone via bluetooth instead of trying to cram a phone into a watch, which seems brain dead. Nice specs. Decent size, reasonably thin, good screen res etc. They appear like they might be decently enough funded to pull it off. Seems like a reasonable target price.

On the downside:
All computer renderings, smells vaporous.

So what do you think - if someone finally builds a decent smartwatch, would you wear it? Or is the concept DOA?

i'm pretty sure..it will stay vaporware.

the problem with all these watches is the battery. I allready have 3 mobile watches...all the same problem...to bulky.
Why don't they make it more horizontally, like this one but with the band at the top..maybe 2 small bands. left and right on top.

then make it really thin with a touchscreen and yess then we are talking.

Thanks Abe,

Like the look and the idea that it is not really a phone - just an interface. Would love this linked to my iphone.

Any ideas of when it is due out?

Ok, at least they have working hardware to demo. Of course, the production model's not as svelte and curvy as the renderings but it's not too hideous:

They're saying shipping is before the holidays in Europe and January for the US.

IMO this "watch" seems to be designed to go with the attire of a[well dressed] robot. But I detest cell phones in general, so the idea of adding to my cell phone with a wrist rock is inconceivable. If it was an actual phone I might at least appreciate it from a multi-use standpoint. Pfff! :-P

I must admit that I have a general dislike of any products purporting to be "smart".

That includes smart phones, smart food, smart kitchen appliances, smart cars, smart water, etc. I don't want them to personalize, localize, categorize, adapt, customize, or tailor their behavior. I just want them to perform a basic function. Is that too much to ask?

I like my "dumb" watches just fine, thank you.

p.s. Wow, that sounded curmudgeonly.
