The forum is missing the depth/variety of knowledge from these and some of the other members that are no longer active on the forum. :-(
Hope they come back soon.

There has been a couple of people asking about Bruce. Not sure. It is spring here in the States, and people try and get some outdoor Sun, especially here in my part of the US. If I here anything, I will post a return here.

Peek a boo.

Still alive.well just about.lol.
Bucko, I've noticed over the years.
Collecters interest/involvement ebbs ( is that how to spell it.lol ) & flows
And i assume not just there contributions to the forum
But the actual time they spend on there "hobbie".

Certainly for myself this is the case. Also i guess
A time does eventually come when a collecter exhausts his
"wants list" personally i'm near to that stage.
Although there will always be that elusive watch.lol. which when it
does appear " dam i can't afford it"

I seem to get pleasure nowadays in seeing others aquiring timepieces,
But sadly there is'nt any suprises out there, ( we live in hope for a unknown model or brand)
Just the known established rarities are desired again and again.
Wonderful as the : GP, P-pulse, Uran-cal, Quasar, Sicura, P1, Modulus. Etc etc are.

Jaded FG. lol.

Nice to know that you are still alive and kicking FG.

It's been a while since you posted photo's of your latest purchases, I bet you still have a few rarities tucked away that you could share, a group shot of the old favourites would also be welcome.

Good news for me that you are nearing completing your 'want list' hopefully you can stop out bidding me on everything now lol.

Keep the posts coming FG!

mick, i think the step was "hokey-pokey". put your left foot in, put your left foot out, put your right foot in, put your right foot out, do the hokey pokey and turn it all about. at least that's the way i remember it. i think that song was from the 1950's, for me 60 years ago. :oops: you are right, the forum is kind of slow. i think we need a synchronar photo in the header as well. peter

Re: Where Has Everyone Gone!

Well, I personally have been away as a form of "Break" - been getting lots of watch work and other work done without spending an hour or more on the forum each day. My secondary reason is great dissatisfaction on how the information is presented or in my opinion, totally lost here. All the LEDs are just jumbled together, threads and information I and others posted lovingly seems to be totally lost. Sure the "look" is nice, but the functionality is shot (could I please have an english2metric pop-up calculator again?). I apologize for selling the forum to someone who visited rarely themselves, so they don't really appreciate what it is like to not have features and functions that were here previously.

From speaking with BRuce I know he is extremely disappointed that the Pulsar threads were so dismantled.

And last but not least, there is no "show" here anymore - the lion-tamer was a prick to some of the lions, occasionally cracking the whip where a stern look would have sufficed. Now all you get is a dog show, "sit still Fluffy, don't want you to mess up your hair."

I could restart the forum as it stood on January 7th, 2012, but that's not the answer either.
Paradise has been paved (be sure to thank FunkyGuy - my last straw-man).

i agree with ed. there is no continuity here anymore. before you could go to the thread of a certain brand and follow all the continuing posts. not any mooooore. i usually visit the forum every day, but rarely sign on. sometimes more than once a day just to see if anything interesting has happened. not. :roll: peter

Unlike many who raved about the new layout and. " clean look" of the new dwf.
I dont like it. A little cold and corporate for my taste.
Howevet i respect the general point of view.

But oh please... lets not return to the old feudal system of
Dictator and warlord. Long live the hanno democracy. and a breath of fresh air
From the tyrannical stink of the previous owner.

I still visit the froum every few days, but find no postings that make me want to reply.
I lost interest in watches a bit, now concentrating on other things.

Yes, I like the new look a lot more than the old, but I too think it was a bad idea to throw all LED treads onto one huge pile.

And I also don't like that DWF search enginge rating is ... somewhere deep in the basement: e.g. google pictures for "ventura vtec kappa": my review thread on dwf.nu used to be first for years (one day I even found my pictures in an Hungarian watch magazine...). Now it's dwf.cc (which always used to have a poor SE rating) and newdwf.com is practically non-existent for google. Take any sentence out of a thread and try to google it: no result, even if you add "site:newdwf.com". This forum has disppeared into a dark corner of the internet. Even dwf.cc is more prominent now.
This is not the reason why I rarely post, but maybe why there is no traffic.

Google bot and Bing bot are active and doing there job! Give it some time to feed the main search stream, you can see them working when you are on the root forum.This place is a work of art and you are just a bunch of old led lovers wanting for things to go faster then time... I wish all the old pulsar techniciens could come back to life and give you the stories that makes led stand as a line in the dates starting in 1530 when the first Nuremberg Eggs was created.

Actually, it doesn't matter that the Google and BIng bots are here - they are implicitly allowed. As the person who drove this site to "first page of search results", has driven my personal, old-school, outdated site to first page results, and recently drove a client's brand new, site/URL to first page of the result in less than 6 weeks I think I am qualified to comment on this situation and how/why it exists. It a multifaceted problem.

1.Improper use of META tags in the source code for the header of every page of the site.
Keywords - none.
description - none
robot and revist tag to help Bots - not being used.
document type and distribution tags - not being used.

Here is what we have, currently.

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
<meta name="description" content="" />
<meta name="keywords" content="" />
<meta name="copyright" content="2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group" />

<meta name="description" content="World's largest forum dedicated to all brands and types of digital timepieces - watches, clocks and gadgets.">
<meta name="Author" content="Ed Cantarella, retroleds@aol.com">

<title>The oldest & NU-est! WWW.DWF.NU - The largest and longest running all digital watch forum.</title>

2.All past links to www.dwf.nu are bein redirected. Not generally a problem, but when bots start reporting that:(a) the page is a redirect, and (B)the redirect doesn't have keywords that match any of the old one (and all keywords should be used elsewhere on the page for maximum punch), the Bots and Google/Bing/whatever downgrade the value of those links significantly.

3.The subcategories of Pulsar/Hamilton/Omega and Synchronar are still buried away. If they were on the index page, and the index page was using keywords to match, then the Bots would rejoice that there was a relevant match. And humans would too, since they would immediately find the category they want. It's called an index page for a reason...I just don't get it. Are books written without an index in other languages? [icon of man beating head against wall or maybe just face2palm]

4. No sounds or smells of men fighting and arguing over fine details. Like a diabetic, a forum needs at least one or two good pokes a day. Just to make sure the patient is still alive.

"Soon the Gypsy Queen in a glaze of Vaseline
Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene!" [Emerson , Lake and Palmer, for those of you who are too young to recognize those classic rock lyrics..]

Hello Retroleds,

A bot takes what it is given, give it a link it will index the link to the servers , give it nothing... it will index nothing! I must say, If I would pay for the rights to your forum creation, I would of added a clause of consulting with your name at the end to make the coding of things perfect for search engines! I took care of 3 different phpbb forums and know what you are talking about even if this is something I did only two times. It takes just a couple of minutes to upload the changed files to the server and you get the bots to visit the site voila! There is a lot of phpbb forum that talk about this out there! How to use meta-tags etc.

By the way, It would be nice to know a site where anyone can get some samples of your music!

Best Regards

I guess while were on it I'd suggest something else, which seems kind of technical but really isn't - the old setup had BLANK category names - the clickable category links, e.g. "Pulsar" were normal STATIC hyperlinks within what the forum software considers the category description. Difference: a 'Bot doesn't want to follow dynamically generated links, a static link is a much better focal point, considering their logic and algorithms. When a Bot looks at a normal forum page, it see a bunch of dynamically(constantly changing) links, generated via php.

Nobody was curious why I had dwfcc.nu in there. I know, such a prick - but at least I'm good at it. :mrgreen:

My Music: We have a show in about a week that is supposed to be videotaped by 2 pros and a few amatuers(friends/family), so we are hoping to put up a slew of stuff up on YouTube. From classic Stones covers to Collective Soul, to George Clinton to originals. We just rounded out the group with a fantastic keyboard player....this guy just fell right in there like he had playing with us for ages. Twas so good we blew right past our normal quitting time by an hour (10 pm)...finally the lead guitarist croaked, "guys, we have to stop, the neighbors will call the cops." Wimp! :lol:

the hobby does ebb and flow. I'm still around too, even got that Electrochromic display watch I was looking for finally!! Right now the hobby is more into clocks for my home. Nixies, VFD displays, and scope clocks are starting to fill up my rooms. :)

Good to see some of the old names I remember.

Hehe, I didn't even realize I was one of the early members, always had this hobby since I was 5 years old and got my first watch as a Christmas gift in 1980. It was a Casio Sun/Moon watch and had a blue plastic face and band. By day it displayed a happy little sun icon with animated rays, by night, a happy little moon icon, their eye moved each second.

Stumbled onto the dwf back then to see what was out there, boy did it broaden my horizon with watch and clock collecting!!

I'll get some of my photos up soon.
