Odd request? Second account on the forum....hmmm.

Post15 Feb 2010, 21:39

Today I got a request from someone to activate a second account here. I know I state in the "policy" that I don't care if you have a second account; however, I have had a shift in my thinking on that. I can't think of any good reasons for a person to have a second account(other than the site admin. for "user experience" type testing...my regular user id is "dongle", FYI). The person making the request doesn't visit often, never chimes in on threads, basically only comes here to sell stuff.

Thoughts, please.

Curious, have you asked him why he wants a second account? Might be an innocent reason for it.

Two contradictory thoughts:

1 - I should abstain from this discussion because people don't like the way I used to ban crazy users at the drop of a hat.

2 - You could give the new account a custom rank of "[original username]'s sock puppet"

Aside from that, I do remember an instance back in the old days where a seller had created two usernames - one to sell stuff with, another to talk up what a great seller the first user was.

Glad I'm not the admin anymore!

You're welcome Jeff (and others). You know, I was almost booted myself at least once or twice....now I have to be the responsible citizen. M:)W:)M Yes, medication makes it all better. It's really not that bad a gig - most weeks I could not sign in and everything would just chug along fine. Probably my biggest regular quandary is deciding whether to answer a post or wait for someone else to answer it - :-? keeping the site relevant and fast/responsive vs. hogging the podium. I'm thankful for all the knowledgable people who come here. A very well behaved bunch. 8-)

Someday I hope to pass the baton. :-)
