Anyone got an Ipad

Post18 Jun 2010, 16:01

I'am thinking about buying one I just wondered if anyone has one and what they think of it, I want to use it instead of my notebook for general web surfing I had a quick go with one in a computer store its very slick and I like the look of the operating system the touch screen thumbnail type web browser is fantastic to use plus it has a high quality feel to it which is important as its not the cheapest bit of kit out there, or is there any Windows based tablet come slate device just as good... :-P

I can't really see much point in having one really. A laptop gives you the ability to angle the dispaly for optimum visibiity and a real keypad which is far more tactile.

Well I went back for a more in depth try out of the Ipad today and spent a good bit of time on-line with one and I must admit I was blown away by the whole touch screen interface and how easy it is to use so I bought one.

For most of the day I've been testing it out and I can report its the most satisfying way to surf the web I've come across I cant really put into words what its like but once you spend time with one you'll see what I mean.

Here's a few pic's...

Good screen resolution

I love Formula 1 racing and this application is right up my street, real time lap times and the cars track positions...outstanding.

Handy, I know what your saying but I don't like sitting in the living room with my notebook on my lap it weighs 3kg and gets hot this versus the Ipad which weighs 700g and stays cool I only use the Ipad for surfing the net nothing else.

So I'am very happy with my Ipad, for sofa surfing its as good as it gets... :-D

Forgot to say. I have my notebook on the arm of my armchair, so I don't feel the heat or the weight of it.
Your screenshots show the ipad in a more positive light as you're showing this forum on it. :-)

I bought an iPad yesterday WiFi 16gb to use around the house for net surfing, & reading forums like this

You must remember it's not a desktop pc or a laptop or just a large iPod Touch like some people say.

For me the combination of a Mac desktop, the iPad and an iPhone covers me wherever I go, each has it's use and is perfect for it's intended use.

Am I an Apple fanboy ? .................. Yes M:)W:)M

Klippie, you made the right choice in buying one. Have you got a case for it yet ? I have seen many online (using the iPad  ) but will go out and have a look at buying one.

With 2 little kids in the house, a wife and vintage watch habit that still flares up from time to time, I have to keep my "vintage iPad" running a little longer. And before any of you ask; yes - it does get hot sitting on my lap on the couch!

But with a whopping 64 kilobites of computing power - how can I complain??

I've got a 1983 BBC Model B micro in the attic. It has a huge 32K of RAM.
I had a Sinclair ZX80 before that. The ZX80 boasted 1K of RAM!
How times have changed.

Boy have they! I'm sure by the time my kids are grown, today's iphones, ipads, etc. will seem just as primitive and cheesy as these old 'gems'....

The Commodore C64 was my first home computer I never much fancied the BBC Micro or the Sinclair Spectrum the C64 with the tape drive used to drive me nuts, it was brilliant though at the time... :-D

These were my favorite games on the Commodore - http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?client=mv-google&v=L2HPnw7ebGE and http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?client=mv-google&v=nBbIIxu2Gzg

I moved on to the Commodore Amiga A500 this was a massive step in home computing with the W.I.M.P. (window, icon, mouse, pointer) operating system I upgraded to the A3000 which cost a bloody fortune in the early 90's that's why it's safely tucked away in the
attic it cost too much to just throw it out...

Technology is moving so rapidly just now it seems every other month something amazing gets launched for example look at the push 3D is getting in a few months something else will be out and we'll all want that too, personally I think it's great and long may it continue... :-D

I agree-it's good for its intended use like web browsing, quick emails, etc, but its definitely not a replacement for a laptop.

Really nice for travelling and on-the-go, though. I use it as a book.

Its been 1 year since I got mine and loving it for the exact reasons I bought it for back in June 2010.

I remember some people saying things like (what will you use it for ? why bother when you have a PC or laptop ? its just for games, its a trend that will go away, its just a big ipod, etc etc) now "they" have one as well

"they" finally realised that it was never meant to replace previous technology

Myself I can't see the point of the Ipad since I have a 64gb Ipod touch. That does all the quickie stuff I need.
But in my loft I have
ZX80,ZX81, Sinclair spectrum, BBC model B, Vic 20, Dragon 32, Acorn Electron, Comm 64 , Atari ST and an Amiga 500 with fatter agnus chip.

Nearly all boxed and working still I hope. Hopefully one day they will reach values where I can swap for a nice GP lol
Best games ever were IMO Jet pack willy and manic miner and amidar .
Gotta love the old games on cassette.
The BBC took off well due to most schools in UK using them.
Had this game called Elite on the electron , a space explorer/shoot em up type , I could never work out how to dock as the planet revolved at end of first level, anyone remember that ?

I think it was a good buy. Do you use your ipad often?
