Any theories, info on Imado

Post03 Sep 2011, 15:57

It struck me again this morning while working on...watches :!: , that so many Imado watches, LED, LCD and some '70s automatics, have obviously the same movement and cases as some Bulova models, or are terribly close. I can only think of one Imado model that doesn't fit that category - the rectangular faced one that was obviously influenced by the Omega TC series. I'm finding nothing on Imado before the '70's. Were they possibly a "B"(secondary) line of Bulova, sort of like how "Vantage was a "B" line of Hamilton? Any thoughts or enlightenment would be nice.

And the Imado's brown owner's manuals seem very "Bulova-like" to me. MAybe just an overactive imagination on that one.

Ed,

Here's an informative thread from a relatively reputable web site that you may have heard of before:
http://www.dwf.nu/viewtopic.php?t=1948

Apparently, the modules for both Bulova and Imado LEDs were sourced from Mostek. Imado was a UK based importer from 1962-2008 and Bulova didn't build their own digitals either so it's probably just a case of a shared supplier.

Ed,

Here's "proof" that Imado and Bulova were not more closely tied together. It's an Imado tuning fork watch - using the ESA 9162 movement. Bulova would never do that:
