Depends on your definition of sleeper.

That BladeRUnner watch that sold for $1300+ a few months back was a sleeper. Who'd have thought more than $100?

Welcome Phasar66,
that's a nice Pulsar and I have my eye on it too... because one is on my wrist right now. :-D

Regarding the 'ultimate sleeper' - I would cast a vote for the Sears Phasar. I think they are really well made, SS, glass screen, great Hughes module and all at a great price. I don't know if it's the ultimate sleeper - but a sleeper no doubt. :-)

I think the Seiko 0634 must rank very high.
When introduced it was 50% more than a Rolex chronograph.
It has all the quality to back it up, that 50% more than a Daytona;and sold a lót better at that price with the Daytona disappearing into oblivion untill the winds of collectable fashion changed.

Today a mid seventies Daytona is 25K easy with the 0634 less than 1% of that.

So there you have it.
The Seiko 0634;
a watch that has all the qualities easily adding up to 50% óver a Rolex Daytona yet costing less then 1%.

LOL! Well, now that you mention it... Sears sold the Phasar but did not manufacture them, and the same can be said of your leather band - so YES - it's "OEM". :-)

I have to agree - I reallly like the 0634 but besides that, the build qauality is renown. LCD watches were a brand new venture and Seiko put their best engineering foot forward with those early LCD's. I thought I read that the 0634 when introduced was the same cost as the Rolex, not 50% more? But I may remember wrong...

You are not wrong.

It was álmost 50% when the 0634 was introduced.

5 years later the Seiko had become a bit cheaper and the Rolex dearer so almost on par.

The crux is the same though.
The Seiko has the legs of the Rolex on quality arguments.

The only snag is the spare parts position.
Not that Rolex still stocks the vintage spares but the mechanical calier was used for decennia and spares were widely needed and thus abundantly stocked whereas the 0634 module was very reliable and spares seldomly stocked ánd had far shorter production run.
This causes a cúrrent spares problem because worn out 0634s were scrapped rather then their electronics saved.

Currenty the Rolex Daytona probably is even less rare that than the 0634.

The only value difference is the collectabilty which is only fashion in desireablity :-D

The Seiko 0634 is currently véry much underappreciated in any aspect one can dream up so it has value growth potential in all of those.
For some odd reason it is stíll escaping from the crave for old Seiko digitals.
