Seiko M158-50009 (Pan Am) - "What makes the Yellow Display!"

Post25 Mar 2013, 06:46

Hello everyone, and thanks for looking at this post. I don't own a Seiko M158-5000 or M158-5009, so I am unable to take the watches apart to see what it is exactly that makes up the "Lemon Yellow" color for these two watches. Are they...

- Lemon yellow colored Reflecting Mirror?

- Lemon Yellow front filter in front of the LCD panel?

Can this filter/ mirror be reproduced with any LCD since they are all generally transparent.

I read the information available on "digitalwatchlibrary.com", and got the following:

"""This was because of the yellow LCD backing which made it easier to read in low light surroundings."""

http://www.digitalwatchlibrary.com/DWL/ ... m158-5009/

I believe that this quote suggests that there is a back "reflecting mirror" that is colored metallic lemon yellow, but I cannot be totally positive. If anyone here knows with 100% certainty, please get back to me on this I would truly appreciate it.

Thank you so much,

- Patrick
