Witschi quartz tester QTest 3000 and iq 3000

Post28 Aug 2015, 11:19

Just treated myself to a present. A witschi Q test 3000 and an IQ 3000. Probably paid too much but it was my birthday.

The q test is pretty easy to use although I am finding the seconds fluctuating over time. Does anyone else have these models and more importantly the manuals? If you do Id love a copy and also advice that may help.

A couple of photos. The Yema is now at -5 -6 seconds

Well done Adam. Looks like a nice bit of kit.
Looks good in the wooden box. At first glance I thought it had a Nixie readout...............which would've been cool 8-)

I recently got a Vibrograph M80, which I've been playing with whenever I get a chance. I eventually got some new digits, so the readout is now complete.
I also had to change an IC that controlled one of the digits.

Mine has a separate pickup/microphone which you hang/clamp the watch on. Just placing the watch on the pickup like yours is a lot nicer.
Rgds.

Thanks Charger. For some reason I though you also had one of these. I know another member has one, hopefully someone else all has one with the manual. I contacted Witschi they don't have one anymore.

I really like the design of the tester, Q from James Bond could have used one :)
Insides look kinda complicated though. I'd love to have a manual also, with the locations of the calibration trimmers.

Capacitive sensor working great with led watches.

And tuning fork watches can be measured too!

Unfortunately mine needs calibration, about +26 seconds means 0 seconds :(

I'll do with my Greiner for the time being, with nixies :)

The nixies are really cool, but I do like the simplicity of the witschi. How did you find out yours needed calibrating? What did you test it against.

It may be a stupid question, but, i'll ask anyway. Can it check mechanical wristwatches? [End of possibly stupid question].

I also have a versitime that I just found the instructions too. Not as cool looking as the witchi but I think it also has an attachment to do mechanicals according to the instructions.

You are a braver man than me opening up the box.

regards

Can I take my turn with the stupid questions?

One unit measures the frequency of the of the QC and displays how far out the time is, does the other unit adjusted it?

There are no stupid questions :)
The Witschi is for quartz only, the Greiner also measures mechanical watches, but not very good, I think it's only for electro mechanical calibres like the esa 9150.

I think Adam's IQ3000 unit is for measuring things like the power consumption of modules.

Regarding knowing it needs calibrating, I measured known good running watches, and on the Witschi it seemed they were running way too fast. (but they weren't)
I checked the watches with a DCF clock. (takes more time of course)
With the rate measuring unit you can adjust the watch in very short time, the tester giving instant feedback of the adjustments you make :)
